Help Me Obi-Wan Friends List
Jan. 9th, 2012 10:48 amI'm wondering if I should get a Pinboard account. (http://pinboard.in/)
At the moment I just do all my bookmarking in Firefox, and then export a subset of that to my Links Page on my site every now and then (using a combination of a plugin, a web-dav server, and a script I wrote myself). It's okay, there are pros and cons to it. Even though Firefox has bookmark tagging, it's really not very friendly, so I just organize them by folders. Doing my bookmarks in Firefox and on my site means that I have control of them. But it would be nice to be able to have publicly available bookmarks that have nicer tagging features. (Yes, I investigated various bookmarking web applications but they were all more painful to set up or use than simply using Firefox's native bookmarking).
Now, I know that many fans have adored Delicious bookmarking (which I never used, myself) and also that Delicious has gone downhill since it was taken over. Hence, my question: should I get a Pinboard account? Anybody here use it? What are the pros and cons?

Buffy Question
Feb. 19th, 2008 09:42 pmQuick question for you folk: working as I am on drabbles for
tthdrabbles, I have a story idea, but I am missing some essential facts. To be precise, I need a scenario where one of the main characters (probably Buffy, Dawn, Xander or Anya) is babysitting an actual baby -- but I can't think of any suitable babies. Or toddlers. I suppose I could make one up, but it would make more sense if it was someone connected with the main characters.

Book Recs Wanted
Dec. 17th, 2007 04:50 pmThe person at work (S) who loaned me the "Order of the Phoenix" DVD really likes Harry Potter (has read all the books at least twice). She hates the Narnia stories (only got half way through "The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe" before she gave up because she felt she was being hit over the head with the Bible). She's just started His Dark Materials trilogy. I've just made her some recs, but I'd be interested in more. She said it isn't so much that she's interested in Fantasy as such, but the things that she loved about Harry Potter were the characterisation and the themes.
So this is what I recced to her:
- The Curse of Chalion (Lois McMaster Bujold) and the other Chalion books
- Sandman (Neil Gaiman)
- the Sime~Gen series
- Doctor Who (though she's mainly looking for book recs)
She also indicated an interest in good Star Wars books, but I couldn't help there, not really being that into Star Wars myself.
So, folks, have you got any book recs, for stuff which is thematically positive with memorable characters?

Book suggestions?
Aug. 3rd, 2007 04:30 pmI would like to get my father a book or two for his birthday, but I don't really know what he would like. I know that he enjoys the following:
- P.G. Wodehouse
- J.R.R. Tolkien
- Sherlock Holmes stories
I don't think he would like Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, though, because they are too cynical. With Wodehouse, he enjoys not just the humour but the wordsmithing.
Oh flist, do you have wisdom to share?
