For those of you who can cast your minds back to those episodes of Classic Who which were set in Gallifrey, what is the correct term for a female Gallifreyan of rank? Is it "Time Lord" or "Time Lady"?
To be honest, i don't think they had a clear cut definition - in 'City of Death', the Doctor calls Romana a 'Time Lady' but at other times he refers to her as a Time Lord (especially in the books) and, when speaking collectively, it's always 'Time Lords'.
Personally, I always say Time Lord, as way too many of the New Who readers seem to think Romana's status (for instance ;-P) was somewhat less than a Time Lord (but she wasn't really a Time Lord, was she, she was a Time Lady and therefore not as special...shudders)
I'm not sure if this is a result of the 'deification' of the Doctor in the new series, or some weird sub-textual form of sexism, but I'm having none of it!
Romana is a "Time Lord" like the Doctor---when she stays behind with the Tharils in Warrior's Gate, they say to her, "You shall be our Time Lord." If I've ever heard the term "Time Lady" I don't remember it.
