kerravonsen: The TARDIS: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue (tardis)

Can anyone tell me the origin of calling the Master "Koschei"? Because I just came across, in The Red Fairy Book, a story titled "The Death of Koshchei the Deathless" (naturally, Koshchei was the evil villain). Coincidence?

I'm pretty sure it was first used in the novel The Dark Path by David McIntee, which provided a lot of interesting but dubiously canonical backstory for the Master. And I'm quite sure it wasn't coincidence, and that McIntee took the name from the fairy-tale character.

Yep. That's where the name came from - it's an ancient Russian myth

Yep, he's from Russian legend. The Wiki has a page on him. :-)
