I'm wondering if I should get a Pinboard account. (http://pinboard.in/)

At the moment I just do all my bookmarking in Firefox, and then export a subset of that to my Links Page on my site every now and then (using a combination of a plugin, a web-dav server, and a script I wrote myself). It's okay, there are pros and cons to it. Even though Firefox has bookmark tagging, it's really not very friendly, so I just organize them by folders. Doing my bookmarks in Firefox and on my site means that I have control of them. But it would be nice to be able to have publicly available bookmarks that have nicer tagging features. (Yes, I investigated various bookmarking web applications but they were all more painful to set up or use than simply using Firefox's native bookmarking).

Now, I know that many fans have adored Delicious bookmarking (which I never used, myself) and also that Delicious has gone downhill since it was taken over. Hence, my question: should I get a Pinboard account? Anybody here use it? What are the pros and cons?

I've just started using it, and I think I can send you an invite if you want to give it a try, though I've not really got the hang of it myself yet - it seems quite heavily geared to pictures, but I gather some people have been using it for fic bookmarking.

(Sorry, that's probably not much help).

You're confusing Pinboard with Pinterest :)

Ooops. So I am *head-desk*

In my defence, I was about to go to bed, and clearly should have done so about half an hour earlier *g*

I've used Pinboard for a few months, and I'm very happy with it. The service is essentially the same as Delicious was before, and I found the interface easy to learn.

Here via the network.

I've been using Pinboard since the day new Delicious launched, and it's the best $9 I've ever invested. It's like Delicious, back when it was easy and clean to use.

The only con I really see is that there aren't any tag bundles, but Maciej (the guy behind Pinboard) is working on implementing them, so we may have them soon.

The no tag bundles is the only problem I have with the site too. Other than that, it's perfect.

[personal profile] kerravonsen, tag bundles are basically what they say on the tin. It's a way to bundle related tags together so that they're easy to find. For example, I might have a bundle called "Harry Potter" where all of my Harry Potter-related tags (character names, pairings, etc.) all go. Or I might have one called "Word Counts" where I can put all of my tags related to word counts. It just makes things easier to organize and find.

plus, the way that delicious used to be, when browsing through, you could have a tag bundle open or closed, so that you didn't have to see all of the items in that bundle (say, my pairings bundle when I was interested in my not!fic bookmarks). Which meant that I could see all of the unbundled tags to see which of my tags had slipped the bundling, and whether or not there was another obvious grouping, or just to search through for unique tags.
