Question For LOTR fans

Okay, so I've been following Mark Reads The Lord of the Rings since a few people mentioned it. (And what fun it has been) He's just read The Two Towers Chapter 8, in which one of the things that happens is that Legolas and Gimli promise to go on a road trip if they both survive the events to come.

So... has anyone written fanfic of that road trip? Good and not slash fanfic?

"I Return" by Conquistadora Really good! One of the first non-hobbit-centric fics I remember reading.

"To Follow an Elf" by Etharei (Incomplete and unlikely to be finished, but very good so far as it goes)

I think I know of a few others, but it may take me a while to remember them and track them down. These two are the stand-outs.

Stories of Arda is a wonderful archive, especially if your preference is for gen, mostly canon-compliant fic. (Not that there are not AUs to be found there-- I've a few there myself-- but they have to maintain some coherency with the source material!)

I still post all my stories there first, even though I'm co-mod at Many Paths to Tread and post a lot at LJ. SoA is what I consider my "fanfic home".

There have to be about a million of them. I have a vague memory of a story in which Legolas takes Gimli home to Mirkwood. Thranduil is worrying that his son is about to make a speech announcing his eternal love for Gimli and heaves a sigh of relief when the only defiance he gets is that Legolas has made friends with a dwarf, something elves don't do, so there!
