kerravonsen: Harry Potter writing with quill (Harry)
This is the story I've been working on for this year's finish-a-thon. I did actually fulfil my 7000-word quota, but I really don't want to frustrate you all by posting an incomplete story that I don't know when I'll finish... so I'll just frustrate you all by posting the first chapter (which is pretty long anyway). 8-P

Harry Potter and the Lore of Fiction

by Kathryn Andersen

Universe: Harry Potter
Summary: What if Harry had taken refuge in the library as a child, and read a lot of SF/F books? How would he interpret his accidental magic?
Spoilers: pretty much the whole series
Words: 2519

This is heavily inspired by "Harry Potter the Arch Magus" by DragonBard. I just wanted to put my own twist on it.

Oh flist! Why are you not signing up for the finish-a-thon?
kerravonsen: I signed up to write WHAT? (ficathon-signup)
This is the state of my finish-a-thon sign-up. (Hey, people, do sign up, won't you?)

I'm pondering whether I should drop the "Methos and the Doctor have a chat" one and/or the "Hermione is an animagus" one...

And whether I should add in "attempt to do a Snape/Hermione Marriage Law + YLC" fic instead. I have the setup for that one figured out, but I haven't got a clue what to do with them once I've got them married. Due to the various things to get my setup to work (it isn't the usual Marriage Law idea) it's basically going to be a Sixth Year/Seventh Year AU, which means that Voldemort is still around and Snape is still a spy. And I don't know what to do! Which is why I haven't put this plot-bunny on the ballot, but I would like to do it at some point, so... I dunno. Thoughts?
kerravonsen: Jack O'Neill writing a report: "It was a dark and stormy mission..." (writing)
Finish-a-thon sign-ups are open!

Remember all those poor, neglected plot bunnies that have been starving from lack of attention, because all those ficathons kept on having higher priority? The stories you wish you could finish, if only you could find the time? Well, fear not, the finish-a-thon is coming to the rescue!

The finish-a-thon is a ficathon, with all the ficathon-like things like deadlines and fellow volunteers to encourage you, but with this ficathon, you write your own ideas. But since part of the encouragement of a ficathon is writing things for other people, what we're going to do, is vote for which story ideas people should write.

See http://multific.dreamwidth.org/44864.html for more info.

Please spread the word.

ETA: Here is my current sign-up: http://www.katspace.org/fiction/ficathons/finish-a-thon/2012/author/Kathryn_Andersen/
Feel free to try to argue me into or out of that list of bunnies.
kerravonsen: I signed up to write WHAT? (ficathon-signup)
Okay, I'm planning to participate in the finish-a-thon (at [community profile] multific) this year, rather than attempt the [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang like I did last year.

But I don't want to make it too stressful, either, because my Muse vanishes when that happens. Still, I'm pondering what I might do that is more fun than dutiful. Of course, as ever, I have more plot bunnies than I know what to do with... but some are more solid than others.
Here are the leading contenders )
So... that's sixteen ideas, which I'd like to cut down to between three and ten... what do you think?
kerravonsen: Jack O'Neill: Excuse me? I think you'll find that the number of the SUBJECT determines the number of the VERB. (Jack-grammar)
Don't forget to sign up for the finish-a-thon! Time is running out!

Surely more than six people want to participate?
kerravonsen: Jack O'Neill writing a report: "It was a dark and stormy mission..." (writing)
This year's finish-a-thon is open for sign-ups! http://community.livejournal.com/multific/40120.html

I don't think I will be participating in it this year - my [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang is taking all my energy and concentration.
I'm still running the finish-a-thon, though. I'm probably mad to, but I am anyway.
kerravonsen: Jack O'Neill writing a report: "It was a dark and stormy mission..." (writing)
My author info page reveals that I have a tie! I'm rather pleased by that, actually. I may end up working on both of them. We shall see.
kerravonsen: Kirk buried in Tribbles: "Help! I'm buried in Plot Tribbles!" (Plot Tribbles)
Go and vote in my poll and say what I have to write!
kerravonsen: Almost anything is fixable in fanfic (fanfic-fix)
Whew! I have now posted all the polls for the finish-a-thon. And it even has a Finish-a-thon poll index. So go and vote, tell me what story I have to tear my hair out over work on over the next eight weeks!
kerravonsen: Eighth Doctor's legs sticking out from underneath TARDIS console: "tea, tools, Tinkering" (tinkering)
Hello peoples!
This year, I thought I'd do things for the finish-a-thon a bit differently, to try to make signing up easier for everyone. So I have set up a sub-site for the finish-a-thon, with a pretty sign-up form, and all the rules and stuff.

http://www.katspace.org/Fiction/Ficathons/FinishAThon/2009/

I plead with y'all; since I want to start the sign-ups tomorrow (and darn, I have stayed up far far far too late working on this) -- make that, I would like to start the sign-ups about eight hours from now -- I would really appreciate people checking it out whether you are intending to sign-up for the finish-a-thon or not. If you could look at it and play around, I intend to delete all sign-ups that are added before I officially open the ficathon, so you can mess around and tell me what's wrong.

1. Does the sign-up form work for you?
2. Are the instructions clear enough?
3. I've changed the rules a bit; any comments/problems with that?

Give me feedback to this post here, and I will be happy. Thank y'all.
kerravonsen: Almost anything is fixable in fanfic (fanfic-fix)
The finish-a-thon is coming up in a few weeks, so I've been pondering what story ideas I'll put up for the vote this year. Looking back on the ideas of previous years, and some additional ideas, I have more than ten; but I'd like to have fewer than ten. So, like I did last year, I turn to y'all for feedback on my candidates.

We have 44 participants! Wow! This has made the post too large for LJ, so it has been split into two. This is the first post. Part 2 is here. Don't forget to visit both pages!
ETA: Due to an error on my part, you'll have to vote on Jedi Buttercup's entry again, as I mislabelled the stories. Due to the way that LJ sets up polls, this means I had to make a new post here

Anyone who was thinking of signing up for the finish-a-thon had better do it ASAP. You have until noon California time (10pm London time, 6am my time) to sign up.

Announcing... the finish-a-thon!
Remember all those poor, neglected plot bunnies that have been starving from lack of attention, because all those ficathons kept on having higher priority? The stories you wish you could finish, if only you could find the time? Well, fear not, the finish-a-thon is coming to the rescue! Look here for details. Please spread the word!

Also, in anticipation of the finish-a-thon, I've put up three "new" stories on my fiction page; two of them are stories which were in Refractions #5 (of which I still have copies in my cupboard (sigh)), and the third which I wrote a couple of years a go but kept in reserve for the putative Refractions #7 which seems less and less likely to happen.
The stories are:
Winning Is The Only Safety (2)
The Butterfly Effect (2)
and The Butterfly Effect (3).
