kerravonsen: Snape, Hermione: "Believe" (Snape-Hermione)
Another from the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange: Never Forget Us; graphic novel format, three panels, beautiful art, but do not read it if you can't bear angst.

ETA: Another rec, this one sweeter. Just Like That Hermione returns to Hogwarts to work for Minerva McGonagall, the current headmistress. While poking about the Headmaster’s Tower, she makes an unexpected discovery.

Another rec from the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange.
A Smudge of Red: vivid imagery, and Snape very much a bastard.

So, instead of reading either book, I've been catching up on the postings at the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange.

A Matter of Life and Death (crossover with Discworld) In the end, Death comes for us all. For Severus Snape and Hermione Granger, it came with cups of tea and offers of employment.
This was delightful. The tone was perfect Discworld, including footnotes and cross-references. Snape was in full snark, and Hermione was, of course, lost in the library...

Sometimes That's What It Takes Hermione despairs of Snape ever wanting her for anything more than running his errands. Until his unhinged physical therapist hits her with an untraceable curse and she ends up literally on cloud nine.
A grumpy and oblivious Snape, an unrequited pining Hermione, a completely deluded jealous woman, a difficult predicament, an efficient Harry, and a loyal friendly Ron.

The Janus Thickey Ward Bittersweet; finding peace and hope in a sea of dreariness and apathy.

The Mysterious Miss Granger Mysterious indeed; it draws you in not just with the mystery, but the meticulous detail of some things, and the bare hints of others.

A Mournful Rustling in the Dark Mystery with a touch of noir, deliciously subtle conversations, attraction, self-control.

I'm surprised how popular the trope of an amnesiac Snape is. I guess people like it because it gives him the opportunity to leave behind all his baggage and start anew, but I think I find it a little more satisfying if he can find peace with all his memories intact; losing everything seems rather too drastic, if he never gets it back again.

Edited to Add: Whom The Gods Annoy
I expected this one to be amusing, but then it took a right turn into touching and angsty as well as whimsical.

I have another rec! When I Cursed the Teacher. Delightful, funny, sweet.

If all the fic in this fest continues to be of this quality, then we are definitely in for a good time. On the other hand, I expect that there will be stories that won't be to my taste, no matter how well written, so there probably won't be uninterrupted gushing from this direction anyway.

The [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange is live! Go, read, look, for all your Snape and Hemione cravings! Of course, I suspect that those of you on my flist who are interested already know about it, and those who don't know about it aren't interested. But still...

Judging from the first three posts, it looks as if we'll be getting a mix of Adult-rated fic, art, and non-adult-rated. Let the reader beware; check the ratings. The rating-warnings on the posts are not very helpful, since ALL posts appear to be warning for adult-rated content; I guess that's the default for the comm.

First rec: Third Star To The Right.
kerravonsen: Methos and Death: "Ancient & Endless" (Methos-Death)

kerravonsen: The TARDIS: "Any place. Any time. (but not where you intended)" (tardis-any-place)
I try to avoid reading works-in-progress, because it's so frustrating waiting until they are finished. But in spite of that, I have been sucked in to reading them every now and then, and I keep on accumulating them. So I thought I'd share my frustration (and who, knows, encourage some authors) by giving my current list of works-in-progress that I have started reading and wish the author would update and finish soon.
mostly Harry Potter and Doctor Who )
kerravonsen: Snape: Anti-hero (Snape-anti-hero)
Fan writers are inventive. One of the things they invent is mocking names for Lord Voldemort.
My two favourites are:
* Lord Moldywort
* Lord Vol-eu-vent

Also, I discovered at my brother's birthday dinner last night that my nieflings are in the "Snape is an evil git" school, and that they strongly dislike the actor who played Harry Potter. Oh well, I guess it takes all sorts.

I have been reading Pet Project, which I have been enjoying greatly, but alas it is a work-in-progress, and I have no idea when it will be finished, considering that the author keeps on being delayed. Foolishness on my part, probably, to have started reading it when I knew it wasn't finished, but so many people had it listed as a favourite story, and the premise sounded intriguing, so I caved. And as I said, I have enjoyed it; Snape is snarky and cunning and walking on a razor's edge, Hermione is brave and thoughtful and foolish, there's nifty extrapolation about the HP world, particularly in regards to House Elves and Arithmancy. I wish she would hurry up and finish it!
kerravonsen: Snape: Anti-hero (Snape-anti-hero)
[personal profile] settiai was just asking for Harry Potter fic recs, particularly for AU epics which were written before the series ended. Most of these recs are Snape-centric, which I expect surprises nobody. 8-)
heeeere's the recs )
Edited To Add: And if anyone has any HP fic recs of their own, PLEASE comment with them. As you might have noticed, I'm very fond of gen Harry-Snape reconciliation fics, but I'm also in the mood for good epics which refrain from character-bashing, are Snape-positive (even if not Snape-centric). It would be nice to see ones which feature Luna or Neville in strong roles too.
kerravonsen: TARDIS, clouds: Dream (tardis-dream)
[livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang is live! Lots of juicy Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane stories! With art!
Go, read, comment!

I did one of the pieces of cover art for the story "The Centre of the Universe" by Azar.
kerravonsen: TARDIS, clouds: Dream (tardis-dream)
With True Love and Brotherhood by [livejournal.com profile] lizbee; read it right now! Well, only if you've seen the Doctor Who Christmas Special; it is the perfect epilogue to it.
kerravonsen: Ninth Doctor and Cally in autumn forest: "Time Crossed" (time-crossed)
Crossover lovers, pop over to [livejournal.com profile] multiverse2004 and read the stories there. [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite decided to waive author anonymity due to the delays, and just post the stories she had, there on the community. There will be a proper website later.
my favourites )
Alas, it looks like I'm one of the people who missed out; there is no story written for me. 8-(

Edited to add:
My story is "Things That Never Were" (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy/Doctor Who)
in the comm or on my website
kerravonsen: (CallyDoc2)
Now the Multiverse authors have been revealed, and my story Two To Make Peace is up, I can put it up on my site too.

And I now know that the fantastic story written for me was written by fahye, who may be [livejournal.com profile] fahye, and if so, her fic is at [livejournal.com profile] mercurial_wit. Hmmm, someone to keep an eye on, yes.
kerravonsen: Ninth Doctor, smiling: Fantastic! (Doc9-fantastic)
And the story that was written for me, Holes in the Ground (SGA/DW) is lovely and fantastic and stylish and cool and has backwards continuity and did I mention it was lovely?

The feedback forms aren't working, so I hope the author manages to see this post...
