Date: 2007-09-04 10:09 am (UTC)Loved the Doctor's comment towards the end about letting go of Naismith when the time comes.
Thank you! I knew I was going to finish it with an epilogue where the Doctor reveals he's figured out who Miles really is, but I that bit only came when I was writing it. But I figured that (a) the Doctor would look up everything he could on Miles Vorkosigan when he did figure it out, and he would be even more impressed with Miles V than Miles N... though I wonder now, just as I'm typing this, whether he's not only impressed with Lord Auditor Vorkosigan, but the fact that Miles will successfully make the transition from adventurer to loving husband and father -- part of that "ordinary life" that the Doctor feels he can never have.
Golly. I didn't even think of that at the time, but it could well be right.

Date: 2007-09-04 11:04 am (UTC)That was exceedingly enjoyable :) I was a little wary to try it, at first, since I've seen only three DW episodes (and that was the Ninth Doctor), but you don't need to know much about Doctor Who to understand what was going on.
So I can't comment much on the Doctor, but I loved Miles, especially the negotiations at the end :D
Lovely story, thanks!

Date: 2007-09-04 01:25 pm (UTC)I'm glad it worked for you. No, the Doctor Who part of it wasn't very continuity-heavy -- whereas I kept on dropping in Miles-continuity because it was from Miles' point of view. I'm really glad that Miles worked! One thing I was certain about (even though the plot changed three times while I was writing it) was that there had to be a scene with Miles negotiating with someone. So that I could play to his strengths (and so that the Doctor wouldn't take over!).
