I saw Tintin a few days ago (Thursday, or was it Wednesday?). I haven't posted about it because it was so good I couldn't really figure out where to start. I still can't figure out where to start, but I figure that I'd better state for the record that, yes, I have seen it, and yes, I liked it a whole lot. It made me want to go and re-read "The Secret of the Unicorn" because it was so faithful to the book. I have to admit I was surprised when Captain Haddock had a Scottish accent, but it suited him. And Bianca Castafiore, oh, she spoke like she was singing; that was better than I could have imagined.

For the tech-heads, yes, the animation was excellent. There were moments that I almost forgot it wasn't live-action.

I would like to see the movie. I have only read one of them, but I enjoyed it. I'm glad to hear it's very good. :)

I took two cousins with me to see it who had never even heard of the character, and I think I made converts. :-) I especially loved all the little nods to the comics, like the newspaper article about Cigars of the Pharoah on Tintin's wall, or the street artist in the beginning who was so obviously Herge (eee!). Only thing that would've made it better/more faithful? If Snowy could talk.

Man, now I want to go see it again!

Oh yes, they definitely made him just as intelligent. But I missed all the little snarky side remarks he always made in the comics. :-) And it wasn't like they followed the laws of physics/nature all *that* closely in other regards, so they could've gotten away with it. ;-)

I still LOVED the movie, it was just one little thing I missed.

I also just saw Tintin, and loved it to pieces. <3 I grew up on the comics, and I almost cried at a few points just because it was so lovingly familiar. *hugs Tintin and the Captain and especially Snowy*

The animation is splendid, and I loved the "transition" they did of showing us the caricature artist's version of Tintin before we saw him in the film. It helped bridge the gap.

I have a confession to make: while you guys were reading Tintin, i was sticking to Asterix, so I've never read them and the shops don't seem to be stocking it - you'd think, with the movie out, that they would! - and I don't feel I should see the movie till I've read the book. I do have a local library I can check when it reopens, but it's so hard to find anything in the children's section there!

Asterix is fabulous - I'm still reading it. Mind you, the live-action movie wasn't all that good, even with Gerard Depardieu as Obelix, though the animated ones were excellent. But I think I missed out by not also reading this series.

Yeah, I thought it was a lovely film.

Rather randomly it occurred to me the other day that if they have Calculus in the next film (which they ought to, especially as The Calculus Affair is apparently a possible), Andy Serkis would be perfect for the role. Which if this were live action would be a bit of a problem, but as it's mocap... :-)

That was Serkis playing Capt. Haddock! :)

Thank you for this! I would very much like to see the film. I used to read the comic in old magazines I discovered as a child!
