Question for Stargate fans

"Entropic Cascade Failure" is the Stargate technobabble for what happens (at least in the Stargate "universe") to the doppleganger from a parallel universe if their alternate is still alive in the universe to which they have just travelled. My question is, does it make any difference to the rate of the "failure" if the alternate is not in close proximity with the doppleganger? The example we have with the two Sam Carters, they were working closely together. What if the alternate were on another planet? Would the degeneration be greatly slowed?

You know, I've often wondered about this. Have puzzled over it many a time. It's a very good plot bunny ... verra verra good.

Also, would mini!Jack experience it if he went to an alternate universe where there was a Jack O' Neill but no mini!Jack?

Interesting question. My suspicion is "no", because they aren't "the same" person in a quantum-string sense; any more than identical twins are the same person.

There's nothing that I know in canon to say one way or the other. And I looked pretty close.

Thanks! I expected you to be one of the people most likely to know, as indeed you would have looked pretty close for research for "Truth and Consequences".

Good! So if I use a certain character, then I'll decree that they won't be suffering from Entropic Cascade Failure due to the fact that their alternate is far, far away. Now I just have to figure out where two other characters alternates are, or whether they exist/are alive in this universe anyway... 8-)
