In other news, the blood tests show I have too much androgen, which, if I recall correctly, is yet another tick in the box indicating that I probably have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. My doctor said that he'd refer me to an endocrinologist if I wanted (it wouldn't help with the obesity, but the hair and pimples, yes). I probably will sooner or later, but not immediately.
However, hooray for my non-diet diet -- I lost another kilo! Woo hoo! Now to just keep up the good work. And actually use the treadmill more than a couple of times...
While I was sitting there waiting for CDs to burn, I got some perl programming done, which means I now have a new version of HTML::GenToc which can now optionally use ID attributes instead of A ->NAME tags. Which I wasn't sure if I could do, so it's nice to have done it.
And I also did a new version of my KatPoll script earlier this week, but have only uploaded it now, so y'all can go take another gander at the SF poll if you like.

Perhaps this page might give you a little idea? I know the pictures aren't very big, but at least it has "normal" (aka "green") cucumbers, "Continental" cucumbers and "Lebanese" cucumbers all on the same page. And it does certainly seem to be only part of the Australian dialect, since all nine results from Google Image for "lebanese cucumber" were from Australian sites. Though why one of the results was a picture of a tub of Philadelphia Spreadable Cream Cheese, I haven't the faintest... Ah, it's because the page was a recipe which included Lebanese cucumber and cream cheese, and the cream cheese was the only thing they had a picture of on the page. I suppose they specififed Lebanese cucumber for the recipe because it was a recipe for a snack, and therefore the smaller size of the Lebanese cucumber made it more convenient to use than a Continental cucumber.
A few more results:
this one has a description as well as a small picture,
this one has a bunch of other cucumbers to compare against (though they seem to have two types of "Lebanese" cucumbers).

Date: 2004-10-23 07:07 am (UTC)A 'green cucumber' looks like a 'ridge cucumber' (which taste better than the ordinary ones, but are never in the shops, maybe because they don't look as smooth)
'Lebanese cucumbers' have no equivalent over here as far as I know. They're really a bit too big to be gherkins (and gherkins are only ever found as pickles in any case)
'truss tomatoes' made me laugh. We call them tomatoes on the vine. 'Truss' has other connotations...

Are you sure you haven't gotten these mixed up? A green cucumber is smooth, and a continental cucumber is ridged and tastes better than the green one (the green one has a bitter skin).

I don't understand why some people call them 'truss tomatoes', because we also call them tomatoes on the vine too. Maybe they prefer 'truss' because it's shorter?
