The huge irony of this is that he and I live in the same city and we still haven't managed to meet face-to-face yet.

Date: 2004-09-08 07:05 pm (UTC)Part of me sat up rather surprised at this remark -- how could anyone not enjoy singing? -- but then it occurred to me that perhaps for many people, singing is something that only professional entertainers do, or is only related to religious practice, and not something that ordinary people can do for fun. Wheras I was brought up with all three.
So, for me, filking is a wonderful blend of two things I enjoy: fandom and singing. 8-)
Speaking of which, could you point me towards some good CDs of traditional folk music? I'm getting a bit frustrated at us having a dearth of tunes that we both know.

Of course, you could always try song books as well if you can read music. do you want me to recommend any titles?

Date: 2004-09-09 10:18 am (UTC)Plus, recorders don't need tuning (always a bouus) and fit easily in suitcases.
Other useful instruments are things like concertinas where you just have to push a button and remember which dot on the paper is which button.
Things like violins are just plain difficult.
