Is your power okay???

We saw on the news that some of Victoria was having blackouts... hell, we got the 43 but at least (since Sydney isn't as bad) we have a good chance of keeping the a/c going (and as it's such dry heat, the a/c is working better this year).

{too hot to hug, so sending you cool and frosty friendly thoughts...}

I love my landlady (my sister) because she had aircon installed a couple weeks back. :)

Aircon ranks quite high in my list of most wonderful inventions ever. I had it installed early last year and during the summer when everyone complained about not having been able to sleep because of the heat, I just smiled smugly.

Things I could do without but wouldn't want to unless you put a gun to my head: aircon, my roomba, and any device that keeps my food and drinks cool (or frozen) and gets my clothes both clean and dry. Oh, and central heating. Also, the computer I'm typing this on. The dishwasher I got just over a week ago is quickly making its way onto this list as well. They're all guilty pleasures (all that extra CO2), but my, they do make life so much more comfortable.

My CyBook isn't on the list because it could easily be replaced by regular books, but it is certainly nice to have.

I agree these are all nice things, however it help if you have power - which we didn't have for most of this evening. :(

I'm envious about the dishwasher, though, we still need to have ours installed in the new house (we moved in April.)

I'm quite fortunate to be living in the Netherlands, where power outages are very rare indeed, and even then rarely last more than a few minutes. The summers don't get quite as hot as they do in Melbourne, but the heat we do get is a damp heat, which is much harder to sleep through.

The dishwasher is bliss. I'm finding it harder every day to understand how I ever managed without it.

We don't have them that often however the problem was apparently caused by an explosion at the South Morang substation. This contributed to the power problems along three transmission lines supplying Melbourne city, it's northern suburbs, Geelong and western Victoria. We were lucky that the power outage for us was evening, not during the day and it was after the change had come through - 35°C rather than 43°C. :)

I wish we could exchange some heat with you. It's not exactly freezing here around 5 degrees but we have 100% humidity which is exhibiting itself as something that is more than a mist but not quite a rainstorm. I think you would find it quite refreshing and I would love to be able to turn the central heating off with out suffering from hypothermia.

I am very very glad that I live in cold, damp, rainy Britain.

Our news speak about extremely hot weather in Astralia, about the fear of fires and other problems. Is it possible to go to work, to school, and what about the animals and plants? I do love warm weather but this is horrible.Take care!
