Oh HAI flist!

I have 35 people on my flist, and I'm on other people's flists (44 of them). You folks range from close friends to people I've never so much as talked to on LJ once, with a big bunch falling somewhere in between. Hello! Welcome!
But y'know, I'm shy of friending people I don't know, and I feel awkward to just jump into and comment on friendsfriends even if they've said interesting things, because I'd just be a random stranger, yes? (Comments on fic is notable exception) And, even more embarrassing is when Person A (whom I think I don't know) turns out to actually be Person B whom I do know, but using a different nom-de-net. Very confusing.
So, what I'd really appreciate is if all of you flist folks, wherever you fall on the spectrum, would come on by and say "hi" here. (Re)-introduce yourself, maybe mention how you ended up friending me, tell me something random about yourself, whatever you like. And, if you're so inclined, let me know what you'd like from me as a, um, flist-person, whether it's "Don't mind me, I'm only here for the fic" or "Don't be such a stranger, come on over to my LJ and talk to me more!" or "Actually, we don't have any fandoms in common any more and I'd like to take you off my flist now" or "Hey, the only reason I haven't been commenting here is because I felt awkward about talking to you", or whatever. It's all good! I won't get offended or freaked out by any of it, I promise.

And, wow, I appear to have started a meme. Go, me! I'm really happy with how much response this has gotten on my LJ, and I hope it does prove to be a useful thing for other people to do, too.
Anyway, oh, yes. Hello! And you know I'm cool with being talked to when you feel like talking and with not being talked to when you don't. :)

Well, it's a good idea, and you expressed it in such a way that people are hopefully not shy about giving an answer.

{big hugs}
I've given up on long-distance air travel because it takes too much out of me and I can't seem to adjust to the timezone changes any more; New Zealand is about as far away as I'll go now.
I curse the time zones which mean I almost never feel safe phoning you in case you're in bed!
Weekends are probably the best time, there's a larger window of opportunity.

It's because they're all cool.

We also have a ton in common, including our attitude towards the awesomeness that is genfic, and our view of God. I hope we stay friends for a long time!

I love having you on my friendslist almost as much as I love being on yours. I've really enjoyed your Doctor Who fic, thus far (Oh! I just finished S3! Does that mean I get to read your other Saving-the-day-without-Bad-Wolf fic, now?) and I love posting my impressions about various Who eps because I know you'll always have something amusing or interesting to say in response.
Also, you make kick-ass icons.

Also, you make kick-ass icons.
So do you.
If I recall correctly, I friended you because we had some mutual friends in common, and I thought, hey, she's been friended by John C. Wright, she must be interesting, and we have stuff in common, let's give this a go, and I never regretted it for one minute.

Date: 2008-04-09 12:56 am (UTC)Our common interests are Billy Joel, books, chocolate, computers, House, movies, music, reading, science fiction, web design, and writing. I should probably update my interests because they wax and wane over periods of time and my list may be outdated. Most of our common interests are common between most people.
But I have to ask you why you like Billy Joel, because he is one of my all time favorite singer/songwriters. I've been to every album tour he has done since his Greatest Hits Tour in 1984.
Anyway, if you want to know more about me, you can read my Profile (http://timewanderer.livejournal.com/profile). I don't post nearly as often as I'd like to. That part waxes and wanes, too. But since I friended you, you can get more info about me in my "Friends Only" journal.

I'm keeping a low profile now.

I call icons "the artistic equivalent of haiku". Because you pack a lot into a small space. And they're quick to make, compared with other things.

I first discovered Alan Parsons with "Turn of a Friendly Card", which impressed me because it was the first record I'd ever got (young teen that I was) in which I liked every single song on the album. That was unprecedented! I didn't know it was possible! 8-)

Date: 2008-04-09 10:48 am (UTC)strong-armedsweetly cajoled me into joining LJ, you'd better know who I am and why I'm here. :-)We met in the TS fandom, on the Cascade Times list. I think you were one of the first people to respond to a fic I posted. It was during Shakespearean week, and I posted my haiku "Cascade Crimson" and you gave me feedback and it was delightful (both the feedback itself and the fact that you responded).
We were also on the Sentinels for Christ list together.
I tend mostly to lurk on your lj because while we do have a couple fandoms in common, we're not into them with the same intensity, and I'm afraid that I'm not into most of your favorite fandoms. (Though thanks to you I at least know what B7 is.) I don't have a whole lot to contribute to the conversations, but I do read.
no subject
Date: 2008-04-09 11:01 am (UTC)Yeah, I've kind of been drifting away from TS. Not that I like it any less, but it seems to be reducing its presence on my landscape, if you see what I mean.
And Sentinels for Christ seems to have vanished, doesn't it? But I've actually been finding that LJ has been even better than that, because I have a small but lovely group of Christian fans on my flist, and even if we don't all have fandoms in common, we know what fandom is, and can support each other with sympathy.

Date: 2008-04-09 08:45 pm (UTC)I don't have much online presence any more, so don't expect to see comments from me. My real job is all about grading papers -- lots and lots of papers -- which doesn't leave me a lot of time to pursue my hobbies. I'm even less inclined to leave comments on fiction because fanfic is for fun and leaving comments is my RL job, which I'd really like to leave behind me when reading fanfic.
There probably isn't much about me that you don't already know, except that I've recently become totally addicted to the Heroes game on Facebook. I'm not a fan of the show, but the game won't let me go. If you have a Facebook presence and you're playing Heroes, friend me so we can play together.

Date: 2008-04-10 03:30 pm (UTC)Completely with you on this. I can't keep up with people's split-journal personalities.
*waves* Hi!
I believe we met through B7_Friday. Because, well, B7 obviously. I have no demands to make of anyone on my flist. If people read my journal, that's nice. If they don't, that's fine. If people comment, that's nice. If they don't, I assume it's because they haven't read it, or because they have lives that require triage, and they can't fit everyone in, no matter how much they'd like.
I keep up with the journals on my flists in fits and starts, depending on what's happening in my life. Hence I tend to leave a flurry of comments in people's journals, then disappear like April snow. I'd love to be keeping up on everyone's journals and fic and whatnot, but circumstances dictate otherwise. Which is why I usually miss all the best fic. And somehow only turn up between the dramas I should know about, in time to stand around saying "Huh? What'd I miss?" Makes me seem like a complete dork. Which approximates my real life.
I have no policies on friending, as I state in my info, so if I've friended you it's because I find your journal interesting for some reason, and I'm not in the least bit offended if you don't friend me back. I'm not offended either, if people dump me off their flist, although it would make me curious as to why.
In conclusion: No expectations. No demands. Just a common interest in B7.

Date: 2008-05-23 12:49 am (UTC)We've been moving in the same circles vis a vis Doctor Who fandom for a long time, but the first real discussion we had was probably about Methos icons. *grins* And then your 9th-and-Methos fic(s) occurred, and somewhere in there we became friends.
Something random about myself: I like bridges. Especially gigantic suspension bridges with bright lights and graceful arches. They connect the here-and-now with the there-and-then; they meld art, geometry, and human endeavor; there's something almost mystical about a bridge wreathed in river-mist with its spires silvered by the dawn. If I ever do the series of highway paintings I've had in the back of my mind for ages, bridges will feature prominently among them.
As, er, a flist person... *sheepish* Of late I'm more absent than not, but I like reading what you have to say
and frequently long to be bold enough to comment more often. Don't be shy to comment to me, though. If I say anything interesting, please do put in your two cents if you wish!no subject
