I Am Magnificent!
Dec. 2nd, 2007 10:09 pmIt's after ten at night, I haven't had dinner, I have a headache, BUT I am typing this on my laptop in my air-conditioned bedroom using a wireless connection! Yay!
I've been working on my laptop all afternoon and evening; the first part of the exercise involved setting up my laptop with a different method of kernel-building (which was supposed to be easier, but it did weird things along the way). And I thought, hey, while I'm rebuilding my kernel, I might as well get my long-postponed wireless networking working. Which would have been easier if the documentation I'd consulted had been a bit less fragmentary. But I did it in the end!
Now I am better equipped for the summer, since I can retreat from the hot (double hot due to hot computers) study, into my air-con bedroom, and still be connected. This is a Good Thing.

Sorry to hear that it's delayed.

Date: 2007-12-04 02:03 am (UTC)And I didn't say it's cooler because it's yellow. I said it's cooler and yellow. (The coolness comes from its 4GB of memory and other nifty stuff; I went for broke. I figured this is the one time I'll ever be able to afford a really nice computer, so I did.)

Date: 2007-12-02 08:27 pm (UTC)It's only one room, my bedroom. I decided a couple of years ago that it was a necessity rather than a luxury because my sleep is so easily disturbed that summer became a nightmare, what with too many nights that were so hot that I couldn't sleep (it is really horrible when the minimum overnight temperature is over 19C). And it did make a great difference. With the added bonus that I now have somewhere I can hole up on really hot days (as well as hot nights).
I decided to get one-room air-con because (a) it was cheaper (b) it seemed a bit silly to air-con the whole house when there was just me there (c) my house isn't suitable for whole-house air-con anyway (one has to put it in the roof or under the floor, and I have a flat roof and not enough room under the house).

Date: 2007-12-02 09:33 pm (UTC)We don't have roof room either, but there's heaps under the house. Actually I want a heat pump so I'll be warm in winter too. I can dream.
