kerravonsen: Eighth Doctor's legs sticking out from underneath TARDIS console: "tea, tools, Tinkering" (tinkering)

It's after ten at night, I haven't had dinner, I have a headache, BUT I am typing this on my laptop in my air-conditioned bedroom using a wireless connection! Yay!

I've been working on my laptop all afternoon and evening; the first part of the exercise involved setting up my laptop with a different method of kernel-building (which was supposed to be easier, but it did weird things along the way). And I thought, hey, while I'm rebuilding my kernel, I might as well get my long-postponed wireless networking working. Which would have been easier if the documentation I'd consulted had been a bit less fragmentary. But I did it in the end!

Now I am better equipped for the summer, since I can retreat from the hot (double hot due to hot computers) study, into my air-con bedroom, and still be connected. This is a Good Thing.

I am glad that things finally got sorted out with your new computer.

Well, I'll agree that you're magnificent. But ::singsongy voice:: My laptop is cooler than yours! And yellow! ::/singsongy voice::

If it ever gets here. ::pout::

Well done! [envies you for the aircon so much]

It was 21C minimum last night here. :-P I have a fan on a timer which helps. But I won't complain because it's summer and sunny and dry and not raining la la la la la!

We don't have roof room either, but there's heaps under the house. Actually I want a heat pump so I'll be warm in winter too. I can dream.

A yellow laptop! Now that's not something you see every day. Or ever, in my case. That's funky. :-D

I almost got flamingo pink, but [livejournal.com profile] bibliohippo objected strenuously. Mind you, I don't like most shades of pink, but flamingo is one of the few that I do like. Anyway, Dell gives you a choice of eight colors for the case, and matching mice.

It's not delayed. I only ordered it last week, and it should come this week or next. It's just that I'm impatient. This computer is falling apart almost as fast as I am. I shouldn't be surprised, though; I just realized that it's nearly eight years old.

And I didn't say it's cooler because it's yellow. I said it's cooler and yellow. (The coolness comes from its 4GB of memory and other nifty stuff; I went for broke. I figured this is the one time I'll ever be able to afford a really nice computer, so I did.)

Very cool! If flamingo pink is that bright, rich pink, then I like that too. I'm not sure what I'd go for. [googles] Ooh, the pink, blue, and yellow are great. Hmm, the deep red's lovely too. I prefer strong colours; the green's sadly wimpy.

No, you don't have to concede, I was just playing with you. ::feels bad now::

Yeah, the green is wimpy. Hm, Avon would probably just get black, but I wonder what Vila would get?

I think he'd go for the yellow or deep red; he likes warm colours and he has shirts in both those. :-)

I'd probably go for blue in the end to match the furniture and my Wacom tablet.

On the other hand, Linux doesn't need as much memory to run without crawling as Windows does. :)

True. The silver is a different model, though, so the choice between black and silver might depend on other features.
