Well, it looks like nobody's going to comment on my writing. This is probably because (a) everyone hopes that someone else will do it, because it's too hard (b) everyone feels they haven't read much of my stuff so they can't comment (c) how the heck do you figure out what someone's style is?

Oh well. Yes, I'm dissappointed, but them's the breaks.

On to other things.

I've just realized there's a possible continuity error in the New series of Doctor Who: in "Dalek", which is supposed to be set in 2012, it's mentioned that the UN are still trying to cover up the existance of aliens, yet, it's remarked at the end of The Christmas Invasion that they won't be able to deny the existance of aliens now. I guess it just means that they did cover it up anyway.

I've also realized that The Christmas Invasion makes one of the things I'm doing in my finish-a-thon story impossible. Since it's rather important for the plot, I'm going to ignore The Christmas Invasion, and say that... in the Christmas Invasion the circumstances were exceptional, and they just don't apply to the situation in my story, so there.
I've also realized that I'm assuming that Rose knows how to swim, simply because every Australian assumes that everybody knows how to swim. And that might not be the case in other countries. However, since we know that Rose did gymnastics, I'm going to declare that she learned how to swim as well.

In doing screencaps for the Pretender, I've come to the conclusion that Michael T. Weiss is not a good actor. He has three expressions: happy, sad, and neutral. When he's angry, he puts on his neutral face and narrows his eyes slightly. Patrick Bauchau can act circles around him. So can Andrea Parker. Now, if they'd had someone like David Tennant in the role... except that he was too young at the time, and in the wrong country.

Which leads on to a dreamcasting idea. Not "who would be the best for a remake of XYZ", but, given six of one's favourite actors, what sort of show should one make for them to star in, and what would be their roles?

I have no idea, but I'll toss out some actors to challenge you (three male, three female):
1. Chrisopher Eccleston
2. Patrick Bauchau
3. Gareth Thomas
4. Jacqueline Pierce
5. Joanna Lumley
6. Diana Rigg

Ian Fleming's original literary James Bond in a BBC Classics Sunday adaptation of the series, set in the 1950s.

I haven't even had the energy to read LJ the last few days--I'm just making a quick pass at the moment--and I'm also absolutely drowning in guilt about not having finished [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha's beta that I said I'd have done Wednesday. So my reason doesn't fall in your abcs, at least. And I haven't commented on any of your recent stuff because I don't know the fandoms! The good news, though, is that we're apparently getting the Ninth Doctor here in March, and I shall go back and read and comment on all your Ninth Doctor stories once I've seen him.

Mistral, you are not allowed to drown in guilt! *stern face* I told you, I have other projects. Do not stress yourself...I hate stressing out my betas, which is why it is my policy not to bug them unless I actually have, say, a ficathon deadline looming, which in this case I do not.

And I was too busy to comment on your writing post, Kat, but hopefully will do so today! Cause I've read a lot of your stuff... *looks fondly at only fanzine on shelf, which contains Verity*

Re writing, I'm not qualified to comment. Re Rose swimming, I'm not qualified to comment on the situation at the turn of the century, but the schools I attended in the 1960s and 1970s certainly regarded it as part of their duty to teach me to swim. I remember my primary school headmaster was frantic when it looked as if my year might not scrape the Bronze Certificate saying that XX per cent of leavers could manage one length, and hailed the girl who finally nudged us into the bronze zone in the last possible week as a heroine who saved us from disgrace. I don't know whether it still applies; a lot of local pools have had to close through lack of funding. I'd be extremely surprised, though, if Rose hadn't learned to swim at all. I still regard "able to swim" as the default.

It's reason (b) in my case.

Only one? :) The programme has a long tradition of being cavalier about continuity, to the extent that a book was published called The Discontinuity Guide.

I would imagine that most schools would still try to teach their children to swim, though I suppose that those in deprived areas of inner London might be less likely to than most.

I'm afraid (ashamed?) to say that I haven't read any of your fanfic, so I can hardly comment on it. It doesn't help that most of it seems to be for series I'm completely unfamiliar with, or for crossovers which I avoid as a matter of principle. or for B7 in which I am no longer interested.

I haven't seen the Christmas Invasion, but I do wonder why Rose's mum accuses Rose of never phoning her while she was away when Rose did phone her in The End of the World.

Dreamcasting: In my mind's-eye fantasy adventure series set in Heptovania, parts have already been allocated to Gareth Thomas and Jan Chappell. Joanna Lumley should, of course, have been Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds.

I noticed that, but I don't think we were told when Jackie received the call, and I concluded it happened before Rose met the Doctor. Jackie evidently didn't think Rose was missing at the time, and it seems unlikely she would have been so relaxed the day after her encounter with the Autons in the shopping centre.

Put me down for a) and c). I haven't answered those questions for anybody. This is one of those memes for which I'm very interested to see what, if anything, anybody else has to say, but which I just don't feel I can answer myself. I look at those questions and my mind just goes blank. For everybdy. I feel mildly guilty about that, but oh well. I figure people probably would rather not have me try to make up something. :)

I couldn't even answer those questions for myself... let alone anyone else.
