LOTR Recap
Jan. 2nd, 2004 11:11 amOne of the things we discussed during dinner last night was The Lord of the Rings movies, specifically what were our favourite scenes, unfavourite scenes and favourite additions, in Return of the King and the three movies as a whole. This is what I can remember...
ROTK favourite bits:
- "I'm glad you're here with me Sam, here at the end of all things"
- The eagles coming, the eagles fighting the Nazgul
- The Rohirrim appearing on the crest of the hill, and charging
- The lighting of the beacons
- The Paths of the Dead
- Aragorn kissing Arwen
Overall favourite bits:
- the death of Boromir (for the angst, not the violence)
- the first encounter with the Black Riders
- the fight at Weathertop
- the destruction of Isengard
- the Black Gate opening (in the Two Towers)
- Strider in the inn at Bree
Favourite archetecture:
- Rivendell (most everybody agreed on this)
- Edoras
- Minas Tirith (though my brother didn't like it, my sister-in-law and I did)
- Minas Morgul
Most egregious bits:
- The character assassination of Treebeard
- The character assassination of Faramir
- The character assassination of Denethor
Most effective additions:
- Merry and Pippin with the fireworks at the Party (establishing character)
- The bits with Arwen (making her a character, not an afterthought)
- The sausages cooking bit at Weathertop (establishing character again: how completely they're babes-in-the-woods)
- making Aragorn the Reluctant King rather than the unwavering hero
- the flashback to Osgiliath, demonstrating the relationships between Boromir, Faramir and Denethor
