Someone pointed me towards [livejournal.com profile] b2mem (Back To Middle Earth Month) and even though it is near the end of the month, they aren't strict about things being finished by the end of the month (they're aware that some things take quite a while to create).

And I am eyeing a particular prompt; Faramir's wedding gift for Eowyn. Naturally, with my inclinations, I would want to make the wedding gift in question. But what should I make? Would a necklace -- however well-designed -- be good enough for such a gift? Or too small and trivial?

WHAT COULD I MAKE THAT WOULD BE FITTING?

Please, give me ideas.

The following dialogue has already gone through my head:
Aragorn: She likes horses. You could give her a horse.
Faramir: A horse? That would be like giving a sword-master a sword.
Aragorn: You could give her a sword!
Faramir: She's trying to give them up.

I think a necklace would be good enough.

Also, I loved the dialogue...

Yes, my first thought was something relevant to an active life, but then she's given up being a shield-maiden, so maybe not. If I knew anything about horse-gear - bits and bridles and the like - I'd suggest a fancy version of that! But I'm sure Eowyn would be satisfied with a meaningful necklace - perhaps combining motifs of Rohan and Ithilien.

I think the banner of Eorl/Rohan is stated to be a white horse on a green ground? And of course Gondor is the white tree plus seven stars on a black ground, though that's really a royal device associated with the House of Elendil, so belongs to Aragorn. I think the Stewards used a plain white flag, though that's not very useful for this purpose, and Faramir may have introduced something else when he became Steward, as he effectively seems to be a vice-roy in Ithilien. I suppose Ithil is the moon, so maybe something with the moon and trees? - I associate the place with trees, and they don't have to be the White Tree.

A glove? Like a riding glove?

I think that Eowyn might not be as averse to pretty jewelry as many think, but I believe that it would have to have meaning rather than mere material value, something that acknowledges her interests and history, and her place in Faramir's heart, rather than just something sparkly and shiny and expensive.

If she were a "modern girl", she'd be the type to prefer a charm bracelet, for example, over a diamond pendant. If Faramir commissioned a piece that acknowledged her place among her people as well as her new place among his, I think she'd be touched.

BTW, welcome to b2mem! It's been a lot of fun this year so far!

Perhaps a diadem with a woven vine, leaf and flower motif to symbolise their shared work in Ithilien.

This is basically what I was going to say, although I was leaning towards a necklace, or a set of multiple pieces (possibly including a belt and/or scabbard--she may be giving up swords, but working in Ithilien after the fall of Sauron, I bet she doesn't do so entirely).

Love your dialogue.

How about a piece of jewelry a necklace, bracelet or brooch, combining a the White Horse of Rohan and the White Tree of Gondor?

Other gifts could be a scabbard or bridle decorated in the same motifs.

I'm glad you are taking part in BTME. There is no time limit for completing stories or artwork this year.

LOL! You have to use that dialogue.

The idea that a groom might give his bride a gift came as a bit of a surprise to me, but I suppose that wedding customs could be different in Middle Earth. I wonder if Eowyn will get Faramir something as well.

I'm trying to think of something that would be appropriate given how they first met, but at the moment nothing is coming to mind.
