Bye Bye Fest

Well, it looks as if I'm in trouble, since the organizer of the sshg_promptfest sent me a note saying that she would not accept any prompts that someone else had seen, which means that every single one of the prompts I was asking about in my previous post have been disqualified.

So I have nothing at all.

I think I'm going to cry.
And there's no point in participating in the fest either, so I won't be.

ETA: Please don't get cross at the organizer, the rules were clear, I'd just forgotten about that bit. I had clearly violated the rules by making a PUBLIC post with my prompts in it. There's nothing to be done, it was my own stupid fault.

And, hey, maybe it's not a bad time to take a bit of a break.

What? Since when was that a rule for any fest?

No, she was within her rights, it really is a rule of this particular fest. Me posting a PUBLIC post with a list of my potential prompts clearly breaks the rule; I just had forgotten about that particular wrinkle of it, otherwise I would have made it a locked post.

She has reasonable reasons for wanting the prompts to be unknown - it's a pure promptfest, not an exchange, and she wants the participants not to know who supplied the prompts, so that they can be free to be inspired by the prompt rather than worrying about what the original prompter might have wanted.

I completely understand the reasoning, and I wholeheartedly support the necessity of maintaining anonymity (let's face it: there are people in this fandom who are loved, people who are hated, people who are feared, people who are loved and feared, people who are hated and feared, people are completely dismissed, people who are...), but I'm still saddened to know you won't be participating.

What? *hugs* I vote you give it 24 hours before deciding. Besides which, collaboration, teamwork and encouragement mean that there sometimes *is* discussion about prompts, including confidential one-on-one phone calls to throw ideas in the air. Yeah, I wouldn't go paying for a 5th Avenue billboard to say "HEY EVERYONE - I GAVE THAT PROMPT WITH THE BALLOON AND THE FOUNTAIN PEN!", but there's "I wasn't sure about my prompts so I asked a good friend for advice about them" and there's "All my prompt wishes are on an open pinned post on my LJ so I just copied them down and used them."

And I promise not to tell *anyone* about the prompt you submitted, even though I'm still not sure that reanimated evil blue jelly monsters are canon. Or that they'd secretly have a love for Hermoine. Although I think you're just aiming for a jelly-wrestling scene between Snape and the monster...

Seen means seen. I would think that putting prompts into a public post counts as "seen". Otherwise she wouldn't have bothered sending me a note, would she? And presumably it doesn't matter that I've now locked that post to "private", because once seen, they can't be un-seen, can they?

And it would be too painful to participate knowing that I wasn't allowed to contribute prompts, wasn't allowed to hope that I'd inspired anybody. Just too painful.

I have essentially been banned from contributing prompts, since the prompts I posted were my favourite prompts, the ones I wanted to submit, and now I can't submit them.

I have nothing. I lost everything due to my own stupidity, and there's nothing I can do about it.

I understand your disappointment. For me, it is the opposite because I have submitted some prompts but I have no hope of participating in responding to any because I am utterly untalented with regards to writing or art. I know I will be honored if anyone chooses one of my prompts as interesting.

I suppose you could always imagine 5 new prompts and save the ones you did have for another year.

I hope you will participate. I appreciate your talent.
