I declare I give up on the fandom_snowflake challenge for this year. Heatwave trumps everything, and I don't feel like catching up later. Though there will be an upcoming craft post when I am less melting.
Work. I had my usual unpaid day off yesterday, which helped me recover a little. But I'm back at the grindstone again today. The problem with our work building is that the aircon is utterly pathetic. It isn't very good at the best of times, but to add insult to injury, when the temperature gets to 40C, the aircon overheats and TURNS OFF. So as the day goes on, the temperature inside the building climbs and climbs. At least this time around they kept the fan part of the aircon going, so the air kept circulating. It still isn't as hot inside as outside, probably 10C cooler inside, just due to insulation and closing all the blinds. But still, being inside when it feels like 30C is not nice. But I'm better off on Level 6 (we are on Level 6 and Level 7 of our building) because many of the blinds on Level 7 are half-broken, so they aren't even trying to keep them shut; consequently it is brighter and hotter up there. Still, it could be worse: I remember a former office where some of the windows didn't have any blinds at all.
Eep. 30C is what our house is when I go home, but opening windows and turning on the aircon downstairs gets that down to 21-23C by the time we go to bed. That must be horrible to work in.
The office however is in a converted house and has no aircon at all so it's open windows and a fan I brought in. The place is a lot better insulated than ours though, being brick and tile and actually having ceilings, so it's not too bad apart from being plagued by flies and mozzies some days. At least it doesn't get as hot as 40C here.
We went to a new restaurant yesterday for lunch and I was stupid even to sit under a skylight in direct sun. [pant, pant] Next time I'll choose my spot more carefully.
