Pondering... Aunt Marge.

In canon - especially Movie canon - Aunt Marge drinks too much.

Suggestions as to why? For those of you who have read my WIP that I was posting a bit of last year, yes, it's in the context of that. So I'm wondering if there are some good and interesting character motivations which would enable one to make Aunt Marge not as much of a drunk as she is in canon, while remaining plausible and true to what we know.

I don't get the impression from canon that Marge was ever married at all. Given the way she dotes on Ripper, that strikes me as a "cat-lady" action (only with a dog): someone who only has animals for company.

Fair point. Maybe it was a long time ago and he died and the dogs are compensation?

Or perhaps she's got cancer and drinks in denial?

Or,perhaps my favourite. She's a genuine alcoholic, but if she really takes to Harry, he might be her reason to try and kick the habit.

Interesting thought. That she started it initially because of that, and now it's habit.
