Looking back on 2004
Jan. 1st, 2005 12:10 pmShould have done this yesterday; ah well, it's probably still 2004 somewhere in the world.
2004 is would have to be the leading contender for Worst Year Of My Life, considering that the lows have been about as low as anything I've ever experienced.

- Continuing plantar fasciitis. Though this improved a great deal, it's still a pain.
- The mysterious fatigue that just got worse and worse and worse and worse. Which was then diagnosed as Sleep Apnea. I think the most frustrating part of that was the two weeks where I knew what was wrong with me, but didn't have the CPAP machine yet. And though the improvement was dramatic, I'm still vulnerable to bad sleep, and it really gets me down that I'm going to have to be on this darn machine for the rest of my life.
- Breaking up with my oldest friend. Though to be more precise, one could consider it to be a trial separation. Golly, I have a lot more sympathy with divorcees now.
- The Toe From The Black Lagoon. I've never before been in such pain that I couldn't sleep even with pain-killers. And the stupid thing is refusing to heal except a little bit.
- Erratic carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Being forgotten at work.
- Accidentally destroying my CPAP machine.
- Losing my credit card just before Christmas.
However, I should not leave out the positive things that were there too.
- Blessing in disguise: the biblestudy group at my house was broken up without so much as a by-your-leave, but considering how bad my fatigue got, I probably couldn't have coped with having to have people there every week.
- I actually managed to go to work even though I was totally wiped.
- New Zealand was very pretty.
- I have the wonderfullest nieces in the world.
- And a really supportive family.
- I wrote a lot of fanfic. Though some people could consider that negative, because I was supposed to be turning over a new leaf and writing original fiction.
- I wrote a lot of Perl stuff.
- The Stay-Away-From-Seven-Eleven-Diet worked! And is still working!

Date: 2005-01-01 09:15 am (UTC)Well, you have to take at least some of the credit for that.
And really, we have an awesome God who turns all the negatives in our lives into blessings in disguise, whether we see them or not.
Oh yeah. Even if the only blessing from a bad experience is to make our hearts more open to our fellow human beings. Cuz there seems to be two paths through suffering: the path of bitterness, and the path of empathy.
I hope your family has a happier 2005 than their 2004. And you too of course, I'm just aware of how worried you were about your family at Christmas.
