Yes, the "festive season" is officially over, but as we aren't yet into New Years, I thought I'd share this with you anyway, as I just composed it.

I regard it as over on 6 January, 12 days after Christmas. Well, that's my story. :-)

Yep, I have to agree with vilakins. The twelve days of Christmas are traditionally December 25th through January 5th, with Epiphany ending up the holiday season on January 6th. This is the season I prefer to see celebrated.

On the other hand, it's the commercialization of Christmas, which not coincidentally arose with U.S. retailers promoting the modern version of Santa Claus, which has pushed the season earlier and earlier (this year I saw Christmas decorations in the stores before Halloween). So perhaps, indeed, "Santafest" runs up to Christmas and ends there.

Yeah. Let's let the silly season be over and the festive season continue!

I was actually considering making it "The 25 days of Santafest" (December 1-25) but it was hard enough to think up twelve things, so I left it at twelve.

I kept on changing my mind about what the elves and the children were doing; originally the children were singing and the elves were a-working, but since I already had "six songs of winter" that seemed a bit redundant, and "a-working" was rather boring. And then I realized I could put in another poke about the commercial nature of Santafest... (grin)

My other favourite lines are "seven hams-a-smoking" and "five holly wreaths" because they fit the pattern of the original so well.

The song is, of course, a listing of a whole bunch of the trappings of "Christmas" that don't have anything to do with Christ.
