Summary: DOESN'T follow HBP or DH...starts in summer after 5th year. NOT HG/SS Snape learns at the last minute of an attempt to kidnap Hermione & a growing friendship complicates Hogwarts life for Hermione.
Look, I like Snape + Hermione friendship stories. But this one does not work at all. I should have known there would be problems when the author interjected an author's note in the middle of a paragraph. But I kept going. While Snape starts off in character, he doesn't remain so. Hermione is worse: she gets inflicted with OOC melodrama and proffers unbelievably handwavey explanations which Hermione wouldn't even be likely to know anyway. (Sorry, but Hermione can't be an expert in chemistry and physics - they don't teach that in Primary School). I gave up when the two of them had a food fight. Not that it would be impossible for Snape to have a food fight, but it certainly wouldn't happen at the start of a friendship. And he wouldn't say "Wow" either. Avoid this if you prefer canon characters to stay in character.
