Set your player on random, pick your favourite lines from the next 25 songs to come up on your playlist.

This is only a pathetic subset of my collection, mainly depending on the vagaries of which of my CDs I happened to convert to .ogg to play on my PC. I skipped 10 instrumentals and songs not in (modern) English. (yes, one of those was in 14th-century English, and I gave up and had to look up the words, at which point I didn't think there was much point.)

I stayed up too late doing this. Oh well.

Ooh! Ooh! ::jumps up and down waving hand like Hermione:: I know some of those. #4 could be an old Helen Reddy song, though it's an ordinary enough line that I suppose it could be lots of other things, too. #9 and #12 are driving me crazy because I'm sure I know them, too. But I'm sure about these: #15 is Sting, Desert Rose; #23 is Lemon Tree, probably Peter, Paul, and Mary; #25 is By My Side from Godspell.

Yes, #4 comes from a hits-of-the-seventies collection.

But of course. And part of the reason I haven't done this meme, though it's gone through my flist several times now. I haven't got a general playlist of 'songs I like'. For that matter, haven't bothered to do a playlist at all - I figure out exactly what suits my mood and shove in the CD. But if I did have time to do playlists, they'd be specialized: the 'cathartic' playlist, the 'housework' playlist, the 'high-energy' playlist, the 'disappears into the background so I can write' playlist, the 'silly' playlist, etc. How would I choose which one to do the meme on?

Well, it depends on the program you use to play them, I guess. With mine, you can load "all the files in this directory" -- and that's what the meme means, I think: the mega-playlist.

What puzzles me is that this random list went to a number of albums more than once, and completely missed others. There was nothing from my Seal album, for example, but more than one from Godspell. Guess that's randomness for you.

#1 is from Godspell, but I can't recall which song (either that or it's Bowie's "Memories of a Free Festival", but it sounds more like Godspell to me).

#9 is a Beatles track. "Hide Your Love Away", I think.

#13 is "Same Old Sun" by the Alan Parsons Project. #15 is probably Sting's "Desert Rose." #23 is Peter, Paul and Mary, "The Lemon Tree." (Except I see somebody already got those. Dang it.) #24 is Alan Parsons again... Not sure of the title, though. "Sooner or Later?"
