Holiday Inning

Had a nice day with dawnmist and her husband C watching the 10th Doctor Specials (aka Season 4 1/2) which they had missed out on when they were showing. Ah, it's fun watching stuff with people; one can make all these snarky remarks and discuss stuff.

The Next Doctor:
"Don't they know you could lose a hand doing that?"
"They're lucky that all they lost was their dignity -"
"And the seats of their pants."
"Giant robots are really quite silly."
(some remark about Japanese giant robots I can't remember)
"Some day I wish these villains would take up the Doctor on his offers."

Planet of the Dead:
"Right, make the convoy drive so slowly that jogging men can keep up."
"Are they going to shoot the bus when it comes back?"
"Malcolm is a fanboy."

The Waters of Mars:
Lots of discussion about Adelaide's actions; C felt that she should have killed the Doctor rather than herself. Agreement that she was an awesome character, though.

The End of Time:
"Who IS that? I think it's one of the Bonds."
"George Lazenby?"
"No!"
"Seeing the Master in drag is just silly."
"Enough with the crazy laughing already! Actually, it isn't the laughing so much as the view of his tonsils."
"That's the worst clamp I've seen, why couldn't they have had a nice Druidic ritual?"
"They used up the budget for Druidic rituals in part 1"
"Yes I certainly believe they used up the budget..."
"This is his last opportunity to overact."
"This really IS the longest regeneration ever."
Making nitpicky remarks about the symptoms of radiation poisoning (C being an expert in radiation)

I don't wish to give the impression that we didn't like it, we liked it a lot. Every time a discussion got too nitpicky we'd stop it with the phrase "handwave, handwave".

I still haven't seen the Season 6 opener; I am avoiding LJ and DW in order to avoid spoilers. Please, I hope tomorrow I will actually get some writing done. Doctor Who is to be my reward.

Poor Timothy Dalton being mistaken for Lazenby!
I must admit he makes a much better villain than he does a Bond. He was great as one of the baddies in Hot Fuzz too.

One day I am going to put together a montage of all the Tennant episode moments that having him sprinting across the screen. No wonder the poor man looked so thin.

Indeed, that was another frequent remark - the need to very fit to act in Doctor Who, because of all the running.
