And on the other other hand, the whole thing becomes clouded when one realizes that the meaning of "moral" is so open to so many interpretations that it might be impossible to determine what a moral stand is. For instance, some believe it is immoral for governments not to actively protect the rights of all minority groups, from racial to sexual minorities. Others believe it is immoral for governments to actively protect some or all of those rights. Some believe it would be immoral for a government not to enact and enforce strong job safety laws, or minimum wage laws. Others believe that such things have nothing to do with morals, and everything to do with interfering with private enterprise.
At that point, one is tempted to retreat in confusion, at least back to the "I'll only be my own moral guardian" view point.
And one become depressed further after realizing that one has to take stands beyond that - stands that require making a personal choice about what is and isn't moral in the world beyond one's self - sometime

Whether or not one attempts to put pressure on the government in other ways... perhaps that's where the confusion arises.
