Rethinking Netfic posts
Feb. 5th, 2011 11:46 amI've been posting-by-email my "Netfic Reviews" reviews here (basically at the same time as I put them up on my website). Because I'm not getting feedback about them, I give you here a poll.

Should I keep on posting the netfic reviews posts?
Should I keep the current format?

Date: 2011-02-05 10:54 am (UTC)I've noticed that all the stories that you've reviewed recently have been rated at least "good" and most of them "very good" or "excellent". Is that because you don't bother to mention stories that you consider "poor" (which would be understandable)? Or perhaps you mostly read stories that you expect to like, having read stories by that author in the past and found them good?

Date: 2011-02-05 11:34 am (UTC)The stories I don't bother to mention are the ones in between, the ones that are merely "okay". Also, when I have a large backlog (as I do at the moment), I tend to drop stories that I might otherwise have reviewed, in the hope of catching up quicker. So the most recent batches have concentrated on the "Very Good" and "Excellent" stories because those have the highest priority.
There was one "poor" story in my recent reading, but I decided not to review it because (a) I have a large backlog, (b) in order to be fair, I would have to read the whole story, even though I'd already realized by the first three chapters that it was dreadful, and I didn't feel like dragging myself through a story I didn't like.
As for how I choose stories, yes, I do read stories by authors I have already read, but I don't restrict myself to that. I also check out stories that other people have recced, stories on moderated sites that look interesting, stories that are nominated in awards, and so on.
