kerravonsen: Stone egg on moss: "Art is Life, Life is Art" (art)

I heard back from Zazzle, and they said that the BBC had complained - though as someone said in my previous post on this, it seems strange that they would target me, and perhaps someone ratted on me. Whatever.
I pointed out their inconsistent policy application, and they thanked me for pointing out TOS violations. The products in question haven't been taken down (yet) but they might still be. If they aren't, that would be blatently unfair, rather than negligently unfair. We shall see.

Since I went to all the trouble of setting up my Zazzle store, I decided to put up some non-fannish stuff. Only one t-shirt so far, based on a lovely fractal I made using Evolvotron (a fractal-exploration program). Not sure what else I'll do; maybe some more fractals.

*eyes your icon*

You know, that dragon / alien egg series you did, a couple of NaArMaMos ago, would make appealing tee designs, I think...

Perhaps you could do a series of art based on different textures.. maybe something to evoke the sense of alien landscapes.

BTW, I'm thinking of starting a Zazzle shop. I don't do fan-art, really. And CafePress won't let you pick and choose which products you want to sell. :-/

Yes, like that icon.

Mostly, I was suggesting a way to go. You do a lot of good art that is not fannish, and there are ways to appeal to fans of Doctor Who (and Blakes 7, and...) without actually referencing any of it -- especially since these shows definitely have their own recognizable ethos.

And you can't copyright an ethos.

I think CafePress has gotten so big as to get callous. They have a similar "no copyrighted material" clause in their shopkeepers' agreement. But they still use people's "I [heart] American Idol" and "Team Edward / Jacob" teeshirts in their online ads.

Talk about a double standard.

You have to be terribly careful with copyright stuff. We're only lucky they haven't made a fuss about fan fiction. If you were selling this stuff at a con, it would be ignored, but on-line, you're just drawing attention to yourself. A friend of mine in the US does teddy bears - no names, please! - based on different characters from various films, TV shows and such. I think she may even have done one on commission from the actor who had played a particular role! I asked her one time why she didn't advertise on-line and she said, "Copyright!"

Pity, but perhaps you can make some for the next con you attend?
