kerravonsen: Almost anything is fixable in fanfic (fanfic-fix)
[personal profile] kerravonsen
Here's the fanfic-what-i-wrote meme various people are doing.

Stories I wrote in 2010:

Most of these were written for the [livejournal.com profile] tthdrabbles Birthday Fest, hence the preponderance of Buffy crossover drabbles and double-drabbles.

January February March August November

My new WIP's were:

An untitled Labyrinth story where Jareth is cursed by his almost-bride and Sarah has to break the curse. I started this before PicoWriMo, but worked on it for most of that month.

My Draco Time Travel story, which I worked on during the last bit of PicoWriMo as I was stuck with the Labyrinth story and this plot bunny wouldn't let me alone, even though I had intended not to work on it until I'd refreshed my memory of HP canon.

My favorite story of the year. Not the most popular, but the one that makes me happiest:

Thinking about it, I have to go with "Motivations" because, well, it makes me happy. Short as it is, the end warms my heart, and, even better, I didn't see it coming when I started writing it.

From my past year of writing, what was...

my best story:

"Embodyment of Hope". It said everything I needed it to say.

story most under-appreciated by the universe:

"Embodyment of Hope" I think, because it was my best story, but seems to have stayed under most people's radar, probably because it wasn't written for a themed ficathon.

most unexpectedly popular:

I was completely bowled over by the response to "A Matter of Decorum". I was also surprised by the response to "Playground Rhymes" because I expected that the fandoms were too obscure for anyone apart from the requester to bother reading the story.

most fun:

The "Valentine's Day Ball" drabbles.

most disappointing:

"Not Your Expected Psychopath", because it didn't quite work the way I wanted it to, and nobody commented on it at all.

story with single sweetest moment:

I think it's a toss up between the end of "A Matter of Decorum" and the end of "Motivations".

story with the sexiest moment

"Valentine's Day Ball (3)" -- look, I write mostly gen. For me, having the characters kiss is about as sexy as my stories get.

most friendshippy:

I don't think I wrote anything particularly friendshippy in 2010.

story that shifted my own perception of the characters:

"Embodyment of Hope" in its way.

story with most interesting idea:

"Playground Rhymes" hands down.

hardest story to write:

A Matter of Decorum, simply because it kept on getting longer and longer while still not getting to the end and I sent it in to the ficathon late, though just barely in time to be posted.

Or my help_haiti story, because I didn't succeed in finishing it, so I suppose you could say that it was even harder to write.

easiest story to write:

I can't remember.

most unintentionally telling story:

None.

most "OHMIGOD HEY *I* WROTE THAT" fanon-turned-canon moment:

Nope. I tend to write in closed canons where such a thing is impossible to happen.

Story I'd like to revise (but probably won't):

I still want to rewrite "By Any Other Name" at some point.

Story I wish I'd finished:

The help_haiti story that I abandoned, alas.

Story I didn't write but swear I will, someday:

Ha! See my plot bunny list. (sigh)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would did this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Much less than I'd hoped, though perhaps not a lot less than I'd predicted, given that I was deliberately signing up for fewer ficathons because I didn't want the stress of deadlines.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?

Vorkosiverse/Liaden Universe (Playground Rhymes) While I'd had the idea for quite a while, I never thought I'd actually write a story using it.

What's your favorite story of the year? (by other people)

Where Your Treasure Is (Harry Potter) by Zeegrindylows
Summary:SS/HG. Post-Deathly Hallows. Severus Snape survives, only to find himself entangled in an enchantment he never expected.
I keep on re-reading this one.

There, Where I Can Never Find You (Harry Potter) by Machshefa
Summary: SS/HG. You disappear into a moon lit night, and I imagine I might have seen you go if only I'd been paying attention.
This is a must-read.

The Jewel In Heaven's Eye (Star Trek: The Next Generation/Highlander) by Icarus Chained
Summary:An empath, and an Immortal leaving Earth for the first time.
Lovely story.

The Longest Road (Doctor Who) by Izhilzha
Summary:The Doctor isn't here yet. Bollocks.
A tale of endurance, with spot-on characterisation.

Mad Nursing Skillz (Doctor Who) by Sahiya
Summary:In which the Doctor has a very bad day, Rory gets to do what he does best, and Amy kicks things. Well, people. Well, one person, specifically.
Rory is awesome.

Did you take any writing risks this year?

Would "writing Severus Snape/Hermione Granger for the first time ever" count as a writing risk?

"Playground Rhymes" probably counts as a writing risk, not just because of the obscure fandoms, but because it was written for the Bujold fest, and yet does not contain a single canon Vorkosiverse character.

What fanfic or profic goals did you make last year, and how did you do in meeting them?

I don't think I made any. Well, apart from deciding to participate in tthdrabbles, the finish-a-thon and the SS/HG Exchange, and I did all three, so I guess I did meet my (modest) goals.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?

Fanfic goals for 2011:

1. Participate in the [livejournal.com profile] tthdrabbles Birthday Fest
2. Run and participate in the finish-a-thon
3. Run and participate in another Multi-Fandom Lyric Wheel
4. If the SS/HG Exchange is run, participate in that. And start writing as soon as I get my assignment.
5. Do at least some work on the WIPs mentioned above. I don't expect to finish them, because they are long. 8-(
6. Polish and finish at least one of my to-be-polished drabbles that I put on the back-burner.
7. Participate in PicoWriMo

I'm not sure if I'll participate in any other ficathons, though it would be nice to do [livejournal.com profile] hlh_shortcuts again. I have a great fondness for Highlander, even if I haven't written a lot in it.

I'm also wondering if I will be insane enough to participate in the [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang if they run it again; problem is, if they run it at the same time as they did last year, then it will conflict with tthdrabbles and the finish-a-thon, and I don't think I can do two ficathons at the same time; I have too much of a one-track mind. On the other hand, it would be a nice opportunity to pull out the stops and actually finish my Draco story, and get art for it.

Hey, I see you wrote some stuff this year that I somehow missed! I shall have to make sure and read them soon. :)

I'm super glad you liked The Longest Road enough to include it here. You were one of about 5 people that I had in mind when I wrote it.
