Australian Federal Election 2010

There I was, looking at the official election website to see where my closest polling station was for tomorrow, and checking who is on the ballot.

I have just discovered the existence of the Australian Sex Party.

This election feels like trying to figure out how to vote for the least-worst candidates...

Underneath the goofy advertising, the ASP have some good policies. I'm preferencing them second after the Libs in the Senate for that reason.

I'm afraid I find it difficult to get past the "same-sex marriage" part. Unfortunately, the parties which are against same-sex marriage are against a lot of things that I'm for, as well, such as priority for the environment and social justice, and/or are for things that I'm against, such as kowtowing to Big Business.

Why can't there be a moderate party that espouses the policies that I want?

Living in a blue-ribbon Liberal seat, the only difference I can make is with the senate. I'm still going to put all the loony right-wing parties last, because that would be worse than loony left-wing parties getting seats.

You're not in favour of same-sex marriage? I don't want to pry, and you certainly don't have to answer this if you'd rather not, but do you mind if I ask why?

My fiancé, who is quite in favour of LGBT rights in general, isn't sure what he thinks of gay marriage either. He has some interesting arguments. I'm not sure I agree with them, but I can see the merit in them nonetheless. So I'm not being all judge-y here or anything - I'm just genuinely interested in why this is the case for you.

I did the same. As much as I cringe at parties like the Socialist Alliance, I'd still rather have them in government than the white supremacist Christian Democrats (whose policies have a whole specific section that's just about how they hate Muslims, which would have lost my vote straight away even if nothing else did), for example.

You may ask, but I have learned from painful experience that anything related to homosexuality is too controversial a topic to safely discuss online. So I respectfuly decline to answer your question.

Depends on what you mean by "good". It looks like any of the policies that I like are lumped together with policies that I don't like, the biggie being same-sex marriage. Do. Not. Want.
However, do not want right-wing loonies even more.
