I have been admiring my brother's planning ability of yesterday. From it, I have now derived three simple rules for planning a rendezvous:

  1. Agree on a time and landmark at which to meet.
  2. Agree on a time when both parties will switch to Plan B.
  3. Have a Plan B.
This can be as simple as "don't meet".

For example, from yesterday:

  1. Meet at the Flinders St. Station clocks at 10:10am.
  2. If we haven't met by 10:45, switch to Plan B.
  3. Plan B: don't meet.

And the other example from yesterday:

  1. Meet in Chavel St, near the corner of Chavel and Elliot St (one block away from Gate 3 of the Showgrounds) at 3pm.
  2. If we haven't met by 3:30pm, switch to Plan B.
  3. Take niece home with you, and call this number. We will pick her up from your house.

Isn't that a well-planned plan? Most people only do step 1.
