Aug. 27th, 2009 01:23 pmAwesome post on sexism: The Terrible Bargain We Have Regretfully Struck (warning, may be triggery for some).
I don't know why, but as I've gotten older, I've gotten less tolerant of male privilege; possibly because I've become more aware of male privilege, due to hanging out with folks like LinuxChix. I don't normally rant about it, because the people who need to hear it don't listen, and the people who listen don't need to hear it. Every now and then I tilt at windmills, and increase my blood pressure as yet another sexist figuratively pats me on the head and wonders aloud whether it's "that time of month" (since obviously I could never have a legitimate reason for being angry at their behaviour).
I don't consider equality to be "let me behave as badly towards men as men behave towards women", though some men object to "women's groups" on the spurious grounds that that's what women would do if they were allowed to get together behind men's backs. (Take the failed formation of a GenToo Women group, for example) I consider equality to be "let me open doors for men, and men open doors for me". As Bill and Ted said, "Be excellent to each other!"
