Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Fay chose silver glitter instead of gold") or big (e.g. "and then Rose was arrested instead of Jack") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.

Date: 2009-07-08 12:07 am (UTC)My thanks, BTW for giving me an excuse to reread "Necessity" - it's one I like to go back and visit now and again.
My change: The Emporer Dalek WINS the fight with Daisy. (Extra points if this means Rose must use Plan C).

"That's it. We've lost," the Doctor said. "We can't beat that many Daleks."
"Yes, the Daleks are powerful," Rose said, "but are they more powerful than Reapers?"
"Are you *insane*?" the Doctor snapped. "Have you learned *nothing*?" He loomed above her, and she was almost frightened at his angry intensity.
"These Daleks already altered history, you know that," Rose said. "This would just be restoring the balance."
"So, you think we can just swan in and kidnap the Dalek Emperor and force him to meet himself?" the Doctor said.
"Can't we just cross our own timeline?" Rose said.
"If we do that, we might as well just set off the Delta Wave now; it would be just as destructive," the Doctor said. "To control the destruction we would have to control the trigger."
"So you think it might work?" Rose said.
"I already said it's pointless," the Doctor said. "You think we could just zap the Emperor out of there?"
"Daisy used a teleport to get to the Emperor," Rose said. "It's probably still in there with him."
The Doctor stared at her. Then he grinned, grabbed her hand, and pulled her towards the TARDIS. "Did I ever tell you that you're brilliant?"

Whatever it was, you can be sure she fought against the stereotype that cyborgs are evil.

8-)
Or what the original turned into, at any rate. I've read a few post-Doomsday AU stories in which Rose grows up, and I've enjoyed them.

The anti-grav technology is futuristic enough that Jim is, if not completely convinced, he's mollified. The dream about Blair convinces him more.

Date: 2009-07-07 02:07 am (UTC)What if the Sarcophagus Alien had taken over Servalan's body instead of Cally's on Terminal?

Date: 2009-07-10 07:12 am (UTC)The others still find out about Avon's telepathy, because Cally tells them.
With the alien in her mind, Servalan-alien is a force to be reckoned with; she styles herself Supreme Empress after she defeats the coup which deposed Servalan in the original timeline. The alien may not have all the powers she had before, but she is still more powerful than a human. She still wants to get home, but while she's here, she might as well go on being served by intelligent menials. She focuses the Federation's energy on (a) building trans-galactic ships and (b) capturing the Liberator.
