Order of the Phoenix
Dec. 9th, 2007 09:34 pmI've just finished watching "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", courtesy of S at work who loaned me the DVD.
I ♥ Luna!
And I'd forgotten how well Sirius was cast; a good balance between his caring of Harry, and his touch of vanity and thoughtlessness.
When Umbrage came on the scene -- I hate that woman with a burning and smoky hatred -- I had to pause the DVD and fortify myself with icecream, because I find it very hard to bear the whole "I must not tell lies" thing. But I told myself that there were actually things to look forward to, such as Dumbledore's Army and the Twins' spectacular "escape", so I sat down with my icecream and continued.
I ♥ Neville! The way everyone cheered when he finally mastered expelliarmus!
And Ron was much better this time. And Hermione was awesome as usual. And everyone, y'know. And Minerva hugging the hopeless divination teacher.
Did I mention that I ♥ Luna?
But I think I will now go and re-read some post-OOTP fanfic (probably "A Year Like None Other", because it is good, though I would rather have another chapter of
jedibuttercup's "Back Again, Harry?" but there isn't one yet.

Date: 2007-12-09 09:02 pm (UTC)Agreed. Voldemort is straightforward: he hates people, he tortures and kills them. He is all raw power. He's very easy to fight, once one overcomes the paralysis of fear.
Umbrage is self-righteous. She's harder to fight because she uses Law as a weapon. I hate her with a burning hatred because she fouls what she touches, and whitewashes it with a veneer of niceness. That scene in Hagrid's hut, where, when she leaves, she sniffs and then sprays scent about herself, I found that very symbolic of her.

Date: 2007-12-09 07:29 pm (UTC)I need to go back and find-- what's the sequel, "A Summer Like None Other"? Or do I have it backward? Whichever one was still WIP, and finish reading it, because that was a good yarn. It'll have to wait, though. Between RL (flood, family, friends) and Yuletide (have only managed to reread 4/9 of canon so far) I'm a bit swamped. I do, however, intend to have at least one more chapter of BAH up by the end of December.

Date: 2007-12-09 09:12 pm (UTC)Last night, I ended up not re-reading "A Year Like None Other", but instead re-read a completely different favourite, a Doctor Who story set in the zeppelin'verse, called "What Country, Friends, is this?" I can't remember whether I've reviewed that one or not. I'm really behind.

Yay!
