kerravonsen: Soolin with a half-smile: impress me (impress-me)

Things are actually looking up, after looking horribly down this morning.

I hadn't heard back from the courier company, so I sent another email. But I had lost hope, because if they hadn't gotten the first one, why would they get the second one? Was I never going to get my computer delivered? Was I going to have to threaten people with lawyers? Was I going to have to get a taxi to their warehouse and demand my goods in person?

Not to mention I hadn't gotten enough sleep, so my reserves were very low.

So when I got to work and had a spare moment, I rang the courier company again. Hanging on to the phone-queue as usual. But I got the Nice Lady, and she said she was still waiting for a fax and I said "Or an email -- I sent it twice!". So she said she'd check with the email people, and put me on hold. She came back and said that they'd had problems with their server, and the email (both of them) had only come in five minutes ago.

But she was still very helpful (and apologetic), and she said she'd talk to the manager, and see, if they could get a spare driver, whether they could still manage to get it out this afternoon or even do a special delivery this evening. She said they wouldn't know until about 1pm, and she would call me back. I said she'd have to leave a message, because I would be in a meeting.

Because it so happened that today was the day of our monthly "company presentation" where a couple of fools volunteers give half-hour talks about what they're working on, while everyone else munches the provided sandwiches (they're very nice sandwiches). And this month, I'd volunteered to talk about our work wiki.

So I was all nervous about that too. Most people prepared fancy PowerPoint presentations for these things, but I hadn't -- I'd made a wiki page, which I thought was a bit more fitting. But I was still second-guessing myself and all.

But I survived the talk (though it started late because we wasted about 15 minutes waiting for the sandwiches, which were not there yet, but the General Manager, after that 15 minutes, told us to start anyway).

Then I got back to my desk, and yes, there was a message on my machine, and yes, they could deliver my computer tonight! So I rang my parents and told them when to expect the delivery man. I haven't really thought about how I'm going to get the computer the two blocks from their place to mine, but I'll drag it foot by foot if I have to!

So I think I know what I will be doing this weekend. (phew!)
