If you could make a request in a ficathon that you knew I would be assigned, what would it be? I probably won't write any of these, so don't think of it as binding, and feel free to be wacky and/or full of yearning. "You can come out now," Maybourne said.
Silence answered him.
"Look, just because I can't see you, doesn't mean I can't hear you." Maybourne tapped the side of his head to indicate the kind of "hearing" he meant.
There was still no answer.
"Fine." Maybourne leaned back in his chair, put his hands behind his head, and smiled. "Just so as you know, they don't trust you anymore. But hey, you don't have to listen to me, just do what you do so well. Next time Bennett has a tete-a-tete with Mister Head Honcho, drop an eave or two, hmmm? I think you'll find it enlightening."
The silence changed its quality, and Maybourne knew that Claude had gone. Good. While they were busy trying to dispose of an invisible man, he himself would be able to get away clean.
