Random Who musing
Jul. 6th, 2007 11:18 amIt just occurred to me that the Doctor knew that Martha could be depended on in "The Last of the Time Lords" to walk around the world for a year, because she'd already demonstrated that she could be awesome and faithful because of the three months of Human Nature/Family of Blood. I mean, duh, obvious, but it just struck me, y'know?
I can't remember whose LJ I read it in, but someone referred to Martha as "The Return of the Apprentice" -- an allusion to Ace, who, if you take the NAs as canon (or even if you take the BFAs as canon) grew into someone who could adventure and be Doctor-like on her own: The Apprentice Become Journeyman, so to speak.
Though other people have also pointed out that Martha was awesome to start with. True, but I don't think she'd have been up to walking around the world to start with, even though she was still awesome. She's now simply more awesome.
As for Donna-as-companion, it's interesting the mixed reactions I've been seeing. In the negative crowd, there's still the ones who think she'd be bad because they don't like Catherine Tate's comedy show, but more of the negatives are from folks who felt about Donna like some people feel about nails scratching down blackboards.
In the positive crowd, there's a mix of "oh, it's going to be awesome! Donna will give the Doctor what-for and won't moon over him" and "I hope it's going to be awesome, but it could end up being awful."
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
As for the Christmas Special, I'm putting it in the category of "easily ignored fluff".
I'm not clicking on any more of your cuts
