I have been bitten by a plot-bunny. Which I'm not going to write (yet). Though maybe I'll put it up in my finish-a-thon list.

Yet another "Parting of the Ways" AU, inspired by the recent New Who episodes (and by lizbee's recent "Martha saves the world" fic) involving pocket watches, Jack's two-year gap in his memory, Romana, faithful bodyguards, Rose, self-sacrifice... and stuff.

(No, watervole, it isn't the crack!fic idea about the Rani. This one is actually reasonably sensible.)

I didn't think I'd want to write another Parting-of-the-Ways AU, but that really does seem to me to be the best point at which to set it.

The crack!fic idea was the result of people making silly remarks in someone's post about "Utopia". The idea: Jack IS the Rani. With a pocket-watch.

In the serious-fic idea, Jack has a pocket-watch too, but it isn't the Rani's.

I think the "Jack is the Rani" idea was mine. RTD has brought back the Daleks for the Season 1 big finish, the Cybermen (and the Daleks again) for Season 2, and the Master for Season 3. So I wouldn't bet against my idea coming to fruition in Season 4. :)

Well, watching one of the Confidentials, RTD did indicate that he had one more part of his "master plan" to go (part 1 - bring back the Daleks; part 2 - bring back the Cybermen; part 3 - bring back the Master).

But I don't think it would be the Rani, myself. She wasn't really a major villain, not like the Daleks, Cybermen or the Master. But I'm not certain what the 4th most major villain in Who would be.

We've been listening to "Except for Bunnies" a lot in my household.... It's stuck in my head, it is...
