Date: 2007-06-15 08:34 am (UTC)they just need to not look at eachother.
i dont think they are stone when they are not looking at eachother.

Date: 2007-06-15 11:41 am (UTC)It must be some form of asexual reproduction or external fertilization though--otherwise the whole stone thing would have had to come some serious negative selection pressure.
Re: Hee
Date: 2007-06-15 12:38 pm (UTC)There didn't appear to be any pronounced (external) gender differences in the ones we saw, but that doesn't have to mean that they're asexual. It could be that
a) we only saw one gender
b) they're hermaphrodites
The other thing, of course, is their appearance. The Doctor said that they turn to stone when observed. But do they all look like angels? The sequence at the end implied that all statues could be Weeping Angels, but that doesn't really fit with what was said about them earlier in the episode -- that they hide their eyes so that they can't accidentally observe each other.
I wonder if the "observation" includes self-observation? Then one could also defeat them with mirrors. On the other hand, mirrors may not count -- after all, one could defeat Medusa by looking at her in a mirror; the "observation" clause could require direct observation, rather than indirect.
Though it also begs the question of why they tend to cover their eyes rather than close them.
And another question is whether knocking the head off of a Weeping Angel statue would kill the Weeping Angel anyway. Who knows, they could be mourning the great Weeping Angel massacre that happened during the Reformation...
SF is fun.
