a) She was introduced to us as a strong woman, and while the writers devolved her, I still liked that potential that was there. The scene where she turned down Raiker is one of my favourite bits with her.
b)Her skill and love of flying, her initial toughness tempered by that little hope for idealism
c)not standing up for herself with Blake
d) I don't find it easy to get into her head. The easiest way in is through her love of flying, but other aspects are more difficult.
e) Well it would have to be Winning Is The Only Safety: Hide And Seek simply because that's the only story where I've written Jenna as a foreground character. Her best scene there is, IMHO, the one where she pulls a gun on Avon.
f)not unless I end up writing the next part of "Winning Is The Only Safety", which I can't really see happening any time soon.

The ninth Doctor.

a)I liked Nine from the start -- he really felt like The Doctor, despite his normal-looking clothes. I'm not really sure when I fell in love with Nine, but my fate was definitely sealed by "Dalek". Angst! Suppressed Emo! Guilt! But also, even in the first episode... loved that speech about feeling the world turning...

b)Best:"Fantastic!" His enthusiasm, his energy, his willingness to self-sacrifice.

c)Worst:his patronizing attitude towards humans in general: "stupid apes" as he keeps on saying.

d)I have to re-focus myself when writing Nine, because I tend to slip into the mode of whichever Doctor I've been reading/watching most recently; the tricky thing about writing the Doctor is that you have these different characters who are the same character, and when writing him when not sufficiently focused, I might slip from general Doctorishness to the wrong Doctor. But once I am focused, once I'm hearing his voice in my head, Nine isn't too hard to do.

e) Well, that would have to be Anaesthesia, even though he doesn't actually know that he's him there, but then, that kind of lets him shine through all the more.

f) Definitely! Not sure when, but I've got a kind of a hankering to write another Cally-and-the-Doctor story, though it might get drowned out by ficathons.

Yes! I so agree with you on the first three.

d) I've only written Four, but yes, it's hard to remember other Doctor's speech patterns when you're watching a different one.

e) An excellent choice. You should re-pimp that story after the last two-parter. :-)

Rose.

I started replying to this one, and I was nearly done, when my computer crashed. I rebooted it, and it crashed again. Then I compiled a new kernel (a task I'd been putting off) in the hope that it's software failure rather than hardware failure (though I suspect that it *is* hardware failure, that is, the poor thing is overheating or something).

Ahem.

Rose.

a) Early Rose I like. When she went swinging on that chain in "Rose", I thought yay! When she faced down the Doctor in "Dalek" I thought yay! When she was the Bad Wolf I did think "cool". But when she was making fun of Queen Victoria, I wondered "Who is this Pod Person and what have you done with my Rose?"

b) Keeping it together in a crisis, fairly often.

c) Going all giggly and selfish!Emo.

d) Well, 2nd-Season Rose isn't My Rose. I can't fathom that Rose at all. My!Rose is plucky and asks questions and doesn't like killin'.

e) Necessity, naturelment, but one could argue that she's AU and therefore doesn't count. But still... I think the following is one of my favourite bit, a key emotional bit in the story:

Rose looked at Daisy, then turned and ran out of the room, out of the house, slamming the back door behind her. Her vision was blurred with tears. She unlocked the back shed where she kept the TARDIS, ran inside, slammed it shut, stumbled into the TARDIS, and fell into the beanbag, sobbing.

I hate this, it's hopeless, I can't do this, I'm nothing but a glorified jailer!

"This is Emergency Program One..."

"Shut it! Shut it! I can't do it!"

Are you going to kill Daisy then? She remembered the Doctor, facing her with that long-barrelled cannon that seemed never to end. Because that's the only alternative.

"No," she whispered. "No more killin'."

f) I do want to write more of Necessity!Rose, yes. Again, depending on ficathons...

Hmmm, I've decided not to sign up for the Heroes Crossover Ficathon after all (today was the last day to sign up). Because even though I did finish the story I said I should finish before I signed up, I'm actually getting more excitement thinking of doing some of my own stuff (particularly Cally & the Doctor, but I need to get a Ten story out of the way first, or I'll get Nine and Ten mixed up with each other).

Anyway, your thoughts on Rose very much match my own, although I didn't have that "I'm watching a pod person" moment, really... She seemed to me to just sort of slip into her 2nd season characterization, somehow, rather than having changed in any sudden, abrupt way.

I'd like to see more of "Necessity"!Rose. But I'll look forward to seeing whatever you do decide you want to do.

Snape.

a)Well, I guess I have to put some of the blame on synaesthete7 for her "Darkness & Light" stories, because that gave me an interpretation of Snape which was just the kind of anti-hero I like: brilliant, snarky, completely trustworthy while seeming the opposite, self-hating, flawed, and needing someone to love him unconditionally.

b) Brilliant and tenacious.

c) His blind, irrational hatred of Harry Potter.

d) Almost as easy as Avon, really, if I keep Harry out of the way, anyway. 8-)

e)In Truth, Beauty; then again, stories that seize me by the throat like this one did tend to be better stories anyway.

f) Not soon, but yes, I'd like to do more in my Snape/Anya series (if nothing else, to make sure they actually do get hitched...). But if I get pissed off by Book 7 I may end up either being too depressed to write more HP, or angrily defiant and write fixit AUs...

Mind you, if he gets ruined in book 7 then all of my Snape crossovers will have to be AU. But if he gets ruined in book 7, I suspect many, many people will be writing Snape AUs.
