Thanks to
hawkeye7 I have Heroes episodes. I've now watched the first three.
I now join in the general Hiro love. (grin)
Of course it draws you in, with all those "to be continued..." endings.
Dramatis Personae (no, I haven't memorized all the names yet):
- Clare, the indestructible cheerleader
- Clare's adoptive father, the Man With The Glasses, who is mysterious, who Knows Too Much, but we don't yet know what his agenda is
- The dead Indian professor, geneticist, who wrote a book called "Activating Evolution".
- The dead Indian professor's son, also a geneticist, who is trying to decipher and complete Dad's research, and is being stalked by the Man With The Glasses, and whoever it was who killed his father
- the very pretty neighbour of the Indian professor
- Sylar, the psycho telekinetic serial killer, who probably killed the dead Indian professor
- the blonde FBI agent who is tracking Sylar
- the nice telepathic cop, who found the little girl who hid from Sylar
- the mysterious black guy in the bar who seems to have Done Something to the nice telepathic cop
- Pete, the nurse who can sometimes fly, all around nice guy
- Pete's brother the shark who is running for congress, who can also sometimes fly
- the pretty black lady who likes Pete, and has just broken up with...
- the Artist Who Can Paint The Future (when he's high)
- Hiro, the Japanese office worker who can bend time and space (but not always the way he intended), who teleported himself to New York five weeks into the future, and picked up a comic book about himself, written by the Artist Who Can Paint The Future
- Hiro's friend, a mundane who likes to download soft porn off the internet, especially featuring...
- the Las Vegas blonde with a split personality, whose Other Half appears to be very violent, mother of...
- Micah, cute black kid who is Very Gifted
There is also the Mysterious Symbol, sort of like a long curly 'f' with two crossbars instead of one. This symbol has appeared:
- in a painting by the Artist
- as a pattern in the data of the Dead Indian Professor
- as a doodle on Clare's geometry textbook
- worn by the Mysterious Black Guy In The Bar
I expect we will find more instances of it as we go on.
There was a point at which I wondered whether Sylar and the Man With The Glasses were the same person, but if they are, they would have to have a split personality, so the point is kind of moot.
The other interesting thing about the Man With The Glasses is that he does appear to be working with someone else, otherwise he wouldn't have been talking on his cell phone when he was in Madras.
One thing that bugs me is that, these people who are supposedly on the run in fear of their lives (Micah's mother, and the Dead Indian Professor's Son) they are so totally dumb in that they keep going home, I mean, how stupid is that?
Another thing I wonder... so we have this prediction of (nuclear?) destruction of New York, on November 8th, which both Hiro and The Artist have seen. What we don't know is whether it's a self-fulfilling prophecy or not. I guess it's supposed to not be. Hiro has already altered his own future, but he's following the future laid down by The Artist, so we can't be that sure how good that is. On the other hand, since Hiro's next destination is supposed to be Las Vegas, it looks as if he's supposed to be bringing Our Heroes together.
Mind you, they're all already pretty connected, only they don't know it. So near and yet so far...
As for Sylar, obviously he's killing other "mutants", and is very powerful. What we don't know is whether he has anything to do with the destruction of New York. The question is, who would be capable of doing it? Is it deliberate destruction or an accident? If deliberate, then Sylar would certainly be a prime candidate. If accidental, I can't help thinking that Pete's brother (who had just gotten elected) might have something to do with it. Or the Mysterious Man With The Glasses and whoever he works with.
Another question: who cleared up Sylar's appartment? I think it could either have been Sylar or perhaps the Mysterious Man With The Glasses and his lot, though it's more likely to be Sylar.
Is the guy who was bugging/removing-the-bug-from the Dead Indian Professor's apartment connected with the Mysterious Man With The Glasses? I suspect that the Mysterious Man With The Glasses works for some well-loaded government department -- one doesn't just up and take a plane to Madras out of one's own pocket. And he does seem to be away a lot.
Please don't spoil me for future episodes...

Date: 2007-04-22 12:32 am (UTC)Of course the science (the next step in evolution and all that) is very crap but who cares - it's a series that keeps getting better and better. It has to be to keep me watching despite two major squicks: nuclear explosions and serial killers. The adorable and cuddly Hiro alone might have been enough but he doesn't have to carry it. :-D

Date: 2007-04-22 01:19 am (UTC)Well, "the next step in evolution" has been done before (for example, The Tomorrow People) but what irritates me most about the way that it's used in Heroes is the breathless narration which talks about Evolution as if it's a god, with demands and purposes and designs. (eyeroll)

Date: 2007-04-22 02:04 am (UTC)Although I rephrase what I said: I gave names that wouldn't be spoilerish or hint at plots or anything, leaving you to discover nicknames and references the good old fashioned non-spoilery fun way.
Also, I left out the ones that I absolutely couldn't remember for one reason or another. (Memory like swiss cheese.)

Date: 2007-04-22 03:58 am (UTC)Nice telepathic cop Matt's last name is Parkman. I want to cuddle him almost as much as Hiro, which is not surprising since I adore every character that actor plays (that I've seen, anyway).
Oh, you're going to have fun. There are so many good things coming, I'm almost envious. :)
