Snagged from

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, what significance does it have.
Of course, "every tenth icon" is a bit hard to decide in what direction one is supposed to be counting, but since it's easier to count down in columns, that's what I'm doing.

This one I think I got from
b7icons; I pounced on it because it has a dual use -- "not so black nor white" sums up both Avon and is generally useful as a remark that some things are simply not black-and-white.

Keywords: CallyDoc2; from my digital art "Skyward"; caption from story by lady_smith
Ah, this one has a long history. It all started when there was a "requests" week on
b7friday, and
redstarrobot wrote for me a Cally and Ninth Doctor crossover story, which kicked off the Cally & The Doctor shared universe, which included "Blaze" by
astrogirl2, which inspired me to do some digital art for, and then I was further inspired to do Skyward, which I dared folks to write a story to fit, and
ladysmith did so, "Lifted Now Skyward", which was cool, and I made this icon based on the original art and a line from the story. I tend to use this icon (a) for Cally-and-the-Doctor specifically, (b) for crossovers (though I tend to use another Cally-and-the-Doctor icon for that more) and (b) stuff that needs a general hopeful tone; "some planets have a spring".

Keywords: Doc9-fantastic
I had seen
astrogirl2's "fantastic" icon, and wanted to make one of my own, because it's so generally useful a remark (as I said, I like to make dual-purpose icons, to both say "I like this fannish thing" and to also have a general statement/emotion that can be used in the LJ way). So when
tardis_icons challenge #22 came along (in the days when I was participating in that) it had a "shapes" challenge (to make a non-square icon), I took it as an opportunity to make a "fantastic" icon of my own.

Keywords: tardis2
Based on TARDIS: Dream -- no, actually, I think I did both of these at the same time, in parallel. I can't remember quite what inspired it now, but I think it was either someone else's icon, or a remark someone made about the TARDIS being a door to adventure, a fulfilment of dreams. Which it is. The second purpose of this icon (besides expressing TARDIS-love) is to make a statement about the importance of dreams and imagination.
Edited to Add: Now I remember! It was done for another
dw_stillness challenge, where the theme was the TARDIS.

Keywords: alone in the night
This is such a lovely icon made by
vilakins, with some allusion to Babylon 5 ("all alone in the night") and that episode "Shadow" where Cally was all alone and isolated. The second purpose... well, I'm not sure if it's meant to express that I feel all alone in the night, or if someone else feels as if they're all alone in the night, so I probably don't use it as much as I ought.

Keywords: Doc4-grin
I had made a 7th-Doctor frowning icon, so I knew I had to make a 4th-Doctor grinning icon. Everyone needs a grin/happy/smile icon.

Keywords: Dalek Inquisition
One of my most popular icons. I did it for
tardis_icons challenge #21. It just all came together with the "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" Monty Python skit, (plus an allusion to "The Curse of Fatal Death" Doctor Who parody) -- it was just fun to do.

Keywords: Doc2-resist-spoilers
My first and only icon to come first in a challenge! This was done for
dw_stillness challenge #3, which was very challenging, because the theme was black-and-white episodes of Doctor Who, which meant that the source material was limited and also things that I wasn't as familiar with. But I scoured and thought, and got inspired, and went forth. Another interesting factor in this particular icon was that I had just finished reading "The Elements of Graphic Design", so I was all gung-ho for space and unity-of-typefaces and consciously tried to keep that in mind while I was making this icon.

Keywords: Fantasy
This was the very first thing I made for
naarmamo this year. I'd wanted a "Fantasy" icon to go with my "SF" icon and my "TVSF" icon; I based it on one of my favourite fantasy novel covers, the cover of "The Blue Sword". I'm pleased with it.

Date: 2006-09-23 03:15 am (UTC)I'm still collecting (and to the best of my poor ability, making) a little collection. Might have a go at this... but I've only for 30-odd, so I'll cheat and say every fourth.

Date: 2006-09-23 03:44 am (UTC)I really should redo the text on 'all alone in the night' now that I know more about doing clear text. I can't remember what font I used though.
And in other news, I went out for lunch in the next suburb and saw that the interesting-looking antique/knock-knack corner shop's door was open and went in out of curiosity. I bought a few lovely things (some beautiful teaspoons, two pewter photo frames, and a gorgeous green art deco bracelet) but the best find was the craft area out the back. He has embroidery supplies and... beads! Lots and lots of beads including amazing individual Venetian glass ones, and he does beading himself. I'm going back there for a long browse and some good advice. :-D

Reply to this comment when you've done that, so I know to check that email.
