As I said in an earlier posting, I am deleting your posting because you won't put a name to yourself. Naturally you're all offended because I was sarcastic to SqueakyChris. I was offended first, you stone-throwers. Pissed off, because you're ignoring what I actually said in my original post -- instead you come roaring in in high dudgeon weeks later, putting words into my mouth, making out I'm saying ridiculous things I never said. And now you dare to say that "I'm afraid of admitting I made a mistake." (narrows eyes in anger). No mistake was made. I stand by every single word I said in my original post. There were four points I made, and there is only one of them that any of you have come near to addressing, and that's number 3, and even that you didn't get right. You accuse me of ignoring what you say, when what you accuse me of saying: that " the creator dislikes all forms of fanfiction" was not what I said at all. What I said was that he thinks "That there are only a few fanfic writers who take fanfiction writing seriously." Similar, but not the damning intolerant thing you accuse me of.
This whole stupid argument has been about you folk picking a fight with me because of something I never said!
Hypothesis: someone brought up my post weeks later on your forum, summarizing it in a nastily slanted manner. You come along, skim the post, figure it's vaguely similar to the accusatory summary, and let go with both barrels, because you'd already been composing your angry reply in your head even before you looked at my post.
It's no surprise that you describe yourselves as friends of the original website owner. Friends are the most biased, and more likely to take offence, than anyone else, even the original person. Naturally you want to defend your friend from all harm, even when there isn't any.
Take a deep breath, and try not to be so trigger-happy. I doesn't do your friend's reputation any good.
Right.....

Well, firstly, I'd like to say if you came back to the site and looked on the forums you would find that this wasn't true at all. But you've done what you have accused us of doing a lot. Made an assumption. You spend time telling us not to be judgmental and read what you say, then write a hypothesis at the end, which is basically you drawing conclusions from the stuff you've read here.
"It's no surprise that you describe yourselves as friends of the original website owner. Friends are the most biased."
I'm probably very wrong here but did you just happen to find the site and read the "review" of Ms. Nitpickers guide to fanfiction, or are you someone who has read her work and felt annoyed enough to defend it? Because, if so, and I'm not assuming it is, thats exactly what we have done.
Also, in another thread you have in your journal, you accused people who left anonymous comments as being too ashamed to leave their name, well you did a similar thing when you wrote about the site, you left a comment on your site about what you thought of it and didn't even email the webmaster to tell him you had done so, he found out by checking were most of the visitors from a couple of weeks ago were from - here. Now, I'm not accusing you of being a coward, like you've done to people I know, I'm just saying perhaps you should look at the situation before commenting. At least we had the decency to make comments on the same site as yours.
Re: Right.....
Date: 2004-03-25 02:25 pm (UTC)Yeah, I've recieved similar advice from friends. "Forget about it" they said... (wry smile)
Firstly, I would like to say, yes, we did make some assumptions about you and jump to conclusions, but we do have to remember that you were the one who came to the site read it and then posted some insults here first.
Insults? What, did I say "his mother wears army boots"? If what I said was the truth, the truth cannot be an insult. If what I said was a lie, then I made errors of fact. If you think criticism equates with insult then no wonder you're so touchy.
Tell, me, if I had made a parody rather than an article, would you have been just as annoyed?
And the main purpose of the site is just to have a laugh. It isn't a means of us trying to discourage people from writing fanfiction whether it is good or bad.
I have wondered to myself about that since. I was wondering whether you folk thought that mockery was a method of helping to improve the standards of fanfic, I'm glad to see at least you know that it isn't. The parody site, will, of course discourage some people from writing fanfic; those who can't cope with being mocked. Whether some of these might have been improved later with encouragement and constructive criticism we shall never know. But that's really another topic for another time.

I had read Ms Nitpickers guide on a previous occassion; and then stumbled across the parody when I was doing a Google search for something else, read it, and criticised it here as an example of an attitude I was sick and tired of.

Well, I'm glad you're not calling me a coward, at least. But I don't see why I should have to email everybody every time I comment about something. Even slashdot doesn't do that, and they're a site which ought to, due to the slashdot effect. This is my LiveJournal, not a news site. My audience is very small.
BTW, does the owner of the parody site email everyone that he parodies?
Re: Right.....
Date: 2004-03-25 02:38 pm (UTC)Well, no. But then again, because he doesn't doesn't mean you shouldn't. And I didn't mean in the way that if you talked about a site you should tell them, I just meant that if you disagreed with anything or everything you saw on the site you could have just posted it on the forum and this conversation probably would have been a lot prettier.
Insults? What, did I say "his mother wears army boots"?
Okay, insults was the wrong word, criticism would have been a better choice, sorry.
"If you think criticism equates with insult then no wonder you're so touchy."
Well, I hope i have made it clear that I don't think that, but reading back through some of our posts it probably was a bit annoying for you to have random people turn up and start flaming you, but we feel you missed the point of the site, it isn't about making people feel bad, it is about having fun. I doubt that anyone whose fanfiction has been used on the site knew about it apart from Ms. Nitpicker and only because she received similar treatment to you after we read it. Touchy bunch of people we are!
Hopefully this will have cleared a whole load of stuff up and, I've said it before, if you read the other fanfics on the site, you might actually find some of the stuff written funny. granted its all from anime series and not from classical titles like the ones you mentioned in an earlier topic, but you never know.
