Need Opinions Please
Mar. 10th, 2004 05:58 pmI need your help, oh readers (all three of you...). I have decided I need to do a ruthless winnow of my Tiles collection (these are "tile" images I've made myself) and only keep the very best ones, and toss out the boring ones (except the ones which are actually being used, like on my website, of course). So I beg you to go take a look, and opine about at least one tile that should be tossed, and one that shouldn't be (so as to save the worthy, if any).
Thank you for your attention.

Date: 2004-03-11 02:03 pm (UTC)What, is there something special about the people who make these things, as opposed to the people who are looking at these things? Your eyes are just as good, I would think.

Date: 2004-03-10 02:40 am (UTC)b7logo2, blue5, the etches, the gblue_clouds, the rainbs, spirals 1-5, turk5, and the wooden next and prev arrows.
I'm not so keen on the more complex ones, but then I like unobtrusive backgrounds.
Not sure if that helps.

my $0.02 rant on obnoxious webpage backgrounds
Date: 2004-03-10 06:45 am (UTC)So: I'd say keep blue2, gblue1, gblue4, gblue4a (which looks cool "on top of" gblue4 as a background!), gblue_cloud1-4, lav2, lavweave looks funky, mblue2, sfcb_b1, sfcb_b2, sfcb_b3, sfcb_lb1, (sglogo1 would be good as a single image at the top of an SG-themed page), (ditto on ts_logo), turk2, turk4, vine, (wood_next and wood_prev are just link-images, I'm assuming).
Use the rest as single-instance images without words on top of them. That's my vote. Some of them are real pretty, some are interesting, many I'd cringe to see tiled on the background and sucking the life-force out of my eyes.
But then, that's just me. :)

Date: 2004-03-11 02:18 pm (UTC)In which case, the rainbow ones would be nice for a desktop too. :)
If you're still soliciting comments, it might be good to indicate which ones you want to put on webpages...
For desktops, I'm kind of boring: I tend to prefer a single, flat color (or a gradation of one color from light to dark across the desktop), and then put a single image in the center. I had Methos for a while. Now it's a nice wildlife picture that a friend took. Kinda boring, I admit, but it's not competing for eye-time.

Date: 2004-03-11 07:18 pm (UTC)As for desktop backgrounds, I'm happier to have mine bright and busy, because I run a script to change the background every ten minutes anyway.
