I have been corrupted by [livejournal.com profile] kannaophelia. Barbie dolls were being discussed in this thread, and links were given and pictures observed, and I fell in love with the Ancient Greek and the Nordic Princess barbies, and it was mentioned that Myers and David Jones might be places to look. So I thought I would. Just look, that's all. I had little hope for Myers because their toy department has shrunk from what it used to be, but I'd never been to the David Jones toy department at all. So this lunchtime I took a look.

Initially I didn't expect much, because David Jones's toy department was even smaller than Myers'. I looked around the small Barbie section, where it seemed that the most exotic ones would be the fairies (three of them with, respectively, blue, and green and pink skins as well as hair and clothing) and the Princess and the Pea. Then I saw Her, on the top shelf over by the wall. The very Nordic Princess I'd drooled over! Though she actually looks less impressive in real life, because all her armour is so obviously plastic. (sigh)

On the other hand, what were the chances that the one and only Princess of the World doll there was one of the ones I'd been drooling over? (There were two other dolls on that shelf, one was a Marylin Monroe doll and one was an I Love Lucy doll, neither of which moved me at all). How could I be sure that she would still be there if I came another day?

Then I looked at the price. Obscene, compared to the US price, even taking the exchange rate into account. How many middle men had this thing gone through? It was ten dollars more than the price I'd declared I'd think twice at. I would be insane to buy it.

I bought it.

Therefore I am insane.

What? Yes, of course I'm going to debox her. What is more, I'm going to deface her armour if I can find a metallic paint which is good on plastic.
Hmmmm, I wonder if I can get my friend the leatherworker to make her a proper sword-belt?

*pops in through friends of list and dies laughing* I *warned* you about Kanna, didn't I? Those are awfully pretty dolls, though, and I'm sure you won't regret it.

And good on you for deboxing and customising.

Hm. I could see the Greek princess fine (very nice), but the link to the Nordic one keeps telling me the servers are busy. I don't suppose the Nordic one is the same as the Viking one? I quite liked the Viking. And very much liked the Portuguese one, I'm a sucker for Renaissance styles. Or quasi-Renaissance, whatever.

The good news is that I already knew you were insane, so my affections are not diminished. ;-) Good luck with the modifications.
