Came home to find notice from Yarra Valley Water saying
- I have a leak
- they have turned the water off
- I'll have to get my own plumber to deal with it.

So I rang our family plumber (hey, people have family doctors, don't they?) and he came over right away to take a quick look at it (and turn the water on and show me where the meter was).
Yes it is a big leak, I didn't notice it because it is the side of the property I never go, but right next to the nearest neighbour's driveway. The leak is probably caused by this huge enormous flax-like plant, which the plumber said he would have to hire a machine to dig out (oh dear, $$$). While we were talking, the neighbour came out. He was a friendly chap.

Other good outcome: talked to neighbour about fence; he'll investigate fence stuff and get back to me. Whew! (Fence is so bad it is falling down, been meaning to do something about it for years)

The leak is big, so I have left the water turned off, and will turn it on again tomorrow morning to have my shower.

Now off to have dinner at Mum & Dad's place.

Eeep, plumbers, not my favourite tradespersons...

Hope it isn't too pricey.

*nods* Sounds like a most suitable description to me from the way you've put it. And I hope it's all fixed up soon. I'm still touching wood with regard to drains and such, even though it's been a few years now since my last problem with volumes of water, so you have my sympathy there.
