Thanks to communicator here's a link to a fascinating article by Samuel R. Delany: About Five Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Words, about the nature of writing, and of writing SF in particular. It really makes me stop and think about how the choice of a single word can make all the difference in the world.

Given that that is true, it was rather unfortunate that Delany's article contained several typos. :)
