Icons, icons, get yer icons here! This includes the request for [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha. No, I didn't do all these today, just one of them. The others have been lying around waiting for me to decide whether I would tweak them or post them or give up on them.
Astrogeek Astrogeek
from my digital art "Astrogeek" (Samantha Carter); want, take, comment, credit
Simon (sigh) Simon (sigh)
done for [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha -- she wanted Simon looking Simon-like, here he is. I fussed so much with the background, I finally gave up.
Vor Love Vor Love
Miles and Ekatarin, from one of the covers of "Komarr" by LMB. Want, take, comment, credit
No Santa No Santa
I declare this a Santa-free zone! (this is my reaction to all the Santa-hats which will soon be breaking out all over LJ). The hat is from some clip-art. Want, take, comment, credit

I initially refused to do it, then held off as long as I could last year because I hate all the Santa imagery too (esp fake snow in summer) but I succumbed and put Vila in a red hat (Robbin' Hood). [hangs head in shame]. At least it wasn't my default icon. It was [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2's very funny Stark one that did me in; it was so bizarre and cute. :-P Also she and [livejournal.com profile] redstarrobot, who did a Cally, are even more cynical and bah humbug than me, but yes, it's no excuse and I'll probably commit hattage again this year. After all, Vila would enjoy the whole thing even if I don't; I wouldn't wear one for anything. I won't wear party hats either.

Nice icons, esp the Sam Carter one. I'm working my way through the Vorkosigan novels going by [livejournal.com profile] altariel1's reading plan and enjoying them though 'Barrayar' has a bit too much pregnancy and reproduction for my taste. but at last Cordelia's gone into action. :-)

I love Christmas but I hate Santa, if you see what I mean.

I do! But I have my reservations about the whole thing as it carries so much emotional baggage I just don't want: family obligations, having to do things you don't want to because even aggressively pagan SILs want a special dinner (who knows why), having to buy presents for adults and get ones you don't particularly want back (yet more bottles of wine with cat labels; sigh); blah de blah blah. At least other religious festivals of whatever kind haven't taken over popular culture so one is free to celebrate them how one wants, or indeed not. Yes, there are the chocolate eggs and bunnies (urk) at Easter, but they're don't impermeate the whole environment for 2-3 months. [stab]

Eep. I thought you were an INTP like me. I just want to get away from it all.

I don't either. It's the expectations people place on others that I find opressive.

I like Cordelia but once again we have the sexist society so enamoured of SF. Why? At least the main characters question it and are intelligent enough to understand that tradition isn't fixed. But even Cordelia was obsessed by child-bearing. :-( However I'm looking forward to more as I like her, Aral, Kou, and Drou very much, and so many people whose taste I respect love the books.

And I have something to look forward to during my enforced breaks at work. :-)

It's kinda natural for women to be obsessed with having children. Those who aren't rarely propagate their genes...

Getting several books down the line, you'll meet some of the women of the next generation who are even more pissed off with Barrayar society as they've had a chance to see the worlds beyond. The culture clash becomes ever more interesting (and you also see the way some women manage to make their own impact by working round the restrictions. I remember one character in particular who gave me a very pleasant surprise)

YAY SIMON! *icon luv.

*heck just Simon luv*

That's awesome. The background works really well, I think, setting off our captain's dark good looks and drawing the focus to his face and to the text.

Thank you! *hugs*

[oh, and such a beautiful Miles/Ekatarin icon.]
